Tacoma 5, Colorado Springs 6 (COL + 1) (ten innings)
Out of Salt Lake City and into Colorado Springs. RHP Steven Shell (3.00) let a run score on three hits, two walks, and five Ks in six innings, which is more in line with what you would expect when he’s doing well. RHP Steve Bray (5.00, BS) followed and let three runs score on two hits, both of them home runs, a walk, and two Ks in an inning of work. RHP Mike Koplove (3.18) also gave up a solo home run, but it was one of three hits allowed in his case, and he additionally had two Ks in an inning and two-thirds of work. In the final inning or so, RHP Levale Speigner (5.00, L) let a run score on two hits and two walks. No home runs, just the hits and walks.
A decent night for the offense, park-aided, in part. 3B Jack Hannahan (HR, 2 RBI, E, .250) and CF Gregory Halman (HR, SB, .182) both had two hits, with Hannahan adding one walk and Halman adding two. Halman has .765 OPS, fourth on the team among regulars, and a .182 average. Hooray! SS Josh Wilson (2 2B, 2 R, .375) contributed a couple of doubles to the mix, RF Ryan Langerhans (CS, .200) walked twice, and 1B Mike Carp (RBI, .275) had a single and a walk.

Huntsville 4 (MIL + 4), West Tenn 3
It was closer this time? RHP Luis Munoz (3.38) did all right with his spot start, giving up two runs on five hits, a walk, and a K. I would like more Ks, but I’ll take just being effective. LHP Robert Rohrbaugh (1.80, BS, L) was not so much that, as he let two runs score on four hits and a K in two and a third innings, though RHP Josh Fields (2.00) scored one of those, with a walk and a K in the final inning and two-thirds.
The offense was a little off. Okay, a lot off, as there were no walks and only one double coming off the bat of CF Kuo-hui Lo (2B, R, RBI, .206). For the rest, you had two singles apiece off the bats of RF Carlos Peguero (R, RBI, .390), C Guillermo Quiroz (R, .324), and SS Carlos Triunfel (.224). It’s something.

High Desert’s game was rained out. I had forgotten that such things happen. In general, but particularly in Adelanto. Doubleheader on Wednesday, which basically means you won’t hear from me until Thursday morning at the earliest.

Burlington 3 (KC - 7), Clinton 4
BEES! What? Sorry. RHP Tyler Blandford (5.56) pitched five innings and gave up three hits and five walks while striking out eight. I’d say that’s…. progress? RHP Chris Kirkland (0.96, E) also had some issues with walks, which was a common theme as the pitchers passed out ten in all. Kirkland had three, along with three Ks and a hit in two and a third innings. RHP Daniel Cooper (6.43) had three runs score against him in an inning of work after three hits, a walk, and a K, but RHP Brandon Josselyn (2.16, BS) let two of those score on a hit, a walk, and a K in two-thirds of an inning. RHP John Housey (5.14, W) pitched the tenth and allowed a hit and a wild pitch while striking out the side.
Not content to let Sams hog all the walk-off glory, SS Nick Franklin (HR, 2 RBI, 2-4, BB, .340) decided he was going to hit one for himself and that was the game, really. There were other contributors too, of course, like 1B Dennis Raben (2B, R, .269) who had three hits, or LF Kalian Sams (2, R, RBI, CS, .269) who doubled, CF Matt Cerione (.188) who had a single and a walk, and RF James Jones (SB, A, .146) who walked twice.
