Tacoma 4, Colorado Springs 5 (COL + 3) (six innings)
This particular outing did not go so well for LHP Garrett Olson (3.14, L), not because he lost his command, because the 4/1 K/BB is all right in 4.1 innings, but because he gave up ten hits, contributing largely to the five runs that scored. RHP Andy Baldwin (3.95) followed with a hit, a wild pitch, a walk, and a K in an inning and a third, and then there was rain for an hour and nineteen minutes before they called it.
We’re talking six innings of offense here, but the normal rules apply, just think of any particular performance as being more impressive in context. So DH Tommy Everidge (R, .277) walked twice, RF Ryan Langerhans (.286) and 3B Matt Mangini (2B, 2 R, E, .278) both had two hits, and 2B Chris Woodward (3B, R, RBI, .256) tripled.

Huntsville 1 (MIL + 4), West Tenn 8
For comparison’s sake, I’m going to say that Felix was to Baltimore as RHP Michael Pineda (1.76) was to Huntsville tonight, the difference being the Huntsville is actually a good team. Pineda pitched six innings and gave up one run on seven hits and six Ks. It took him ninety pitches to get there and the ground/fly wasn’t anywhere near Felix like, but he got fairly deep, struck out a few, and suffered nothing from a bunch of hits allowed. RHP Steve Bray (0.00, S), moved to West Tenn after the Rainiers signed that cop I guess, got the save after pitching three innings and allowing one hit and striking out one.
Let’s talk offense a bit. The bottom third wasn’t doing anything, which is a shame because that contains a number of local favorites, but the heart of the order was pretty darned good. Three and four hitters 2B Dustin Ackley (2B, 3 R, .173) and RF Mike Wilson (HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, .239) both had two hits and a walk, and number six hitter C Guillermo Quiroz (3B, 2 RBI, .368) added three hits and continues to kill the ball. DH Carlos Peguero (HR, .370) added a home run, his fourth, while batting second. I don’t know that I’d put him there personally, but he’s hitting for a high average, seeing a fair number of pitches. I guess it makes about as much sense as batting Branyan second last year.

The game in Lake Elsinore was rained out. This is the part where I make a dumb remark about climate change. This will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday.

Burlington 4 (KC - 7), Clinton 2
Even Bees have to win sometime. RHP Taylor Stanton (5.19, L) pitched six and a third innings and let four runs score on nine hits, two walks, and a K through six and a third innings. My armchair diagnosis is that he was putting balls into play a bit much. Brilliant, I know. LHP Jose Jimenez (1.29) allowed three hits over the next inning and two-thirds and struck out one. In the ninth, LHP Brian Moran (0.00) got a rare one-inning stint in which he allowed one hit.
By my own rules, I get to note two players in this, 2B Nick Franklin (.339) and RF James Jones (2 R, .161) for both having a hit and a walk. Sams got two throws in that led to successful outs at home, which is pretty awesome.
