West Tenn 4, Mobile 3 (ARI - 3)
RHP Michael Pineda (1.69 ,W) pitched six frames and let two runs (one earned) score on five hits, a walk, and four Ks in six frames of work, and ninety pitches. Pineda’s probably my favorite player in the system now, no disrespect to Ackley. RHP Mumba Rivera (7.94, BS), is not, and did little reverse my opinion by allowing a run to score on a hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. LHP Edward Paredes (3.38, W) had a hit and a walk over the next inning and a third, and I’m pretty sure that’s his first walk all year. RHP Josh Fields (1.46, S) allowed a hit and struck out a pair in the ninth, which is WOOO, so long as he keeps the walks down.
Player of the game, without dispute, was 3B Alex Liddi (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB, .269), who had three hits and a walk in the game and even a rare stolen base. Other contributors included (DH Mike Wilson (2 R, SB, .313) and SS Carlos Triunfel (RBI, .278) who both had two hits apiece, and 1B Johan Limonta (SB, .264) who had a single and a walk.
High Desert 8, Lancaster 6 (HOU - 6)
LHP Travis Mortimore (7.11) pitched four innings and let two runs score on two hits, two walks, and four Ks. Surprising, I know, but one some level I wonder if starting might be more productive for him. RHP Blake Nation (2.63, W) let three runs score on six hits, two wild pitches, and a K in the next two innings, though those were the first runs I think he’s allowed since the first game of the year. RHP Steven Richard (5.40) let an unearned run score on a hit, a hit batter, a walk, and three Ks in the next two innings, then RHP Cheyne Hann (1.93) allowed two hits in the ninth.
RF Johermyn Chavez (2 2B, .290) was the only one on the offense to reach three times on the night, with three hits. There were plenty of twos though, CF Maximo Mendez (R, RBI, SB, .271), 1B Nate Tenbrink (RBI, .400), DH Rich Poythress (2 R, RBI, .278), C Travis Scott (HR, .286), 3B Edilio Colina (R, RBI, E, .295), and SS Juan Diaz (2 R, .221) representing, all of the above with a hit and a walk with the exceptions of Tenbrink and Scott who did the two hit thing.
Clinton 5, Cedar Rapids 0 (ANA - 3)
As said before, I kind of love LHP Jonathan Hesketh (7.79, W) when he’s on. He was on this time. Three hits, nine strikeouts, five innings. Good job, sir. RHP Chris Kirkland (0.69) was also kicking ass and taking names, recording five Ks in three innings without allowing anyone to reach safely. RHP Brandon Josselyn (4.09) recovered from last week to have a hit and two Ks in the ninth.
The Lumberkings didn’t need to do a whole heck of a lot to outdo the Kernels tonight, but that’s no diss on the offense. CF Daniel Carroll (R, .200) and SS Nick Franklin (R, RBI, .351) both had two hits out of the 1-2 spots in the order, and further down, DH Vinnie Catricala (2B, RBI, .284) and RF James Jones (3B, 2 R, .200) both had an extra-base hit, with Jones adding a walk. When Jones and Martinez start to come around, this is going to be an exciting offense.
