I don’t think that anyone was expecting this game. For one, Cheney has a park factor on the mid-80s for home runs and there was eleven total in the game. For another, the Rainiers hit seven of those and still lost. RHP Michael Pineda (4.76) let six score on eight hits (HR), a walk, and five Ksin three and two-thirds innings. He didn’t even take the loss. That went to LHP Edward Paredes (5.60, L), who let three score in two-thirds of an inning after two hits, a hit batter, a walk, and a K. RHP Steven Shell (3.72, BS) scored three of those and four more of his own on four hits (2 HR!) and two Ks in an inning and a third. After that, RHP Levale Speigner (5.22) was surprisingly okay, giving up two hits in two and a third innings. Then RHP Dan Cortes (5.14) was surprisingly bad, letting four runs (three earned) score on five hits, a walk, and a K in two-thirds of an inning. RHP Josh Lueke (2.77) got the final out.
Let’s talk about hitting or something. SS Tug Hulett (2B, HR, 4 RBI, E, .467) had five hits. He’s really happy to be back in a Rainiers uniform. Next, I might as well mention that the Birthday Boy, CF Gregory Halman (HR, CS, .247) hit his thirtieth home run and walked. Of course, there were others that probably had a bigger impact, like how 3B Matt Mangini (2B, HR, 2 R, .306) and DH Brad Nelson (HR, .259) both having three hits, with Nelson adding a walk, and LF Mike Carp (2 HR, 3 R, .249), 1B Justin Smoak (HR, 2 RBI, .257), and RF David Winfree (2 R, .324), who all had two hits. Carp walked once and Smoak walked twice. C Eliezer Alfonzo (R, .236) had two walks which is funny because he only had five of those all season. Ackley didn’t make it on to the mentionables because he only had a single.
West Tenn 0, Montgomery 2 (TB - 4)
RHP Jarrett Grube (3.40, L) gave up two runs on eight hits, a walk, and seven Ks in five and two-thirds innings. Not so bad, it’s just that the offense did nothing. LHP Nick Hill (4.58, E) allowed a hit and two walks while striking out two in the last two and a third innings.
2B Matt Lawson (.324) had a hit and a walk. RF Scott Savastano (.274) walked twice and that’s kind of unusual.
High Desert 12, Inland Empire 5 (LA - 15)
RHP Maikel Cleto (6.25, W) picked up his fourth win. Run support helps things. Anyway, he gave up three runs on five hits, four walks, and four Ks in five and two-thirds innings. RHP Jake Wild (5.40) had a hit, two walks, and two Ks in the next inning and a third. RHP Ryan Moorer (7.62) gave up two runs on a hit, a wild pitch, and a walk in the eighth and RHP Blake Nation (4.93) had a hit and a Kin the ninth.
2B Kyle Seager (2B, HR, 4 R, 2 RBI, .346) hit his eleventh home run and reached four times with two hits and two walks. Batting behind him, SS Edilio Colina (3 R, .298) had three hits, while technically ahead of him, kind of, C Trevor Coleman (2 2B, 2 R, 2 PB, .211) had a couple of doubles and a walk. 1B Rich Poythress (2 2B, 5 RBI, .311) also had two doubles and a bunch of RBI. RF Johermyn Chavez (2B, R, .316) and LF Jake Shaffer (2 RBI, .334) both had two hits as well, DH Ji-man Choi (3B, R, .294) tripled, and 3B Shaver Hansen (R, RBI, .201) had a single and a walk.
Quad Cities 5 (STL + 7), Clinton 4 (ten innings)
This was supposed to last seven innings. RHP Erasmo Ramirez (2.70) gave up four runs (one earned) on five hits, two walks, and six Ks in six innings. RHP Forrest Snow (1.10) pitched the next three and allowed a hit and two walks while striking out three. RHP Brandon Josselyn (3.96, L) had one score on two walks in the tenth. Both Snow and Josselyn had an intentional walk among those.
RF James Jones (2B, E, .263) and 2B Gabriel Noriega (RBI, E, .239) both had two hits. CF Matt Cerione walked twice, SS Nick Franklin (2B, .283) and LF Vinnie Catricala (2B, R, .305) both had a double and a walk, and 3B Mario Martinez (3B, R, 2 RBI, .239) had a triple.
Quad Cities 3 (+ 6), Clinton 6 (seven innings)
That’s more like it. LHP Jason Markovitz (4.76) got the start for whatever reason and pitched three innings, allowing a hit, a wild pitch, and two walks while striking out four. LHP Jose Jimenez (3.49, W) let two score on three hits, three wild pitches, and two Ks in the next two innings. RHP Fray Martinez (9.64) had a run score on a hit and a walk in the sixth, then in the seventh, RHP Stephen Pryor (5.23, S) walked one and struck out three.
SS Nick Franklin (2B, R, 2 RBI, E, .287) had three hits and the only double. 3B Vinnie Catricala (.305) did reach three times too with a hit and two walks, but not a whole lot came of it. DH Mickey Wiswall (R, RBI, .315) added two hits.
Everett 1, Eugene 6 (SD 0)
LHP Edlando Seco (2.53, 2 E, L) let two score (one earned) on four hits, a couple wild pitches, four walks, and four Ks in five innings. RHP Taylor Lewis (22.09, E) then let four runs (two earned) score in an inning+ on a hit, a wild pitch, and two walks. RHP John Housey (3.27) allowed a hit and struck out a pair in the final two innings.
2B Terry Serrano (R, E, .301) had two hits in the leadoff spot. LF Kevin Rivers (RBI, PO, A, .318) had a single and a walk.
Pulaski 3, Elizabethton 2 (MIN + 15)
Baffling. RHP Steve Kohlscheen (2.51, W) ran his record to 3-0 by pitching five innings and giving up a run on four hits while striking out seven. LHP Ryan Kiel (3.97) then gave up a home run and another hit and a walk while striking out four in two frames of work. RHP Bryan Leigh (1.71, S) had two hits, a walk, and a K in the last two.
All-star 3B Ramon Morla (2 HR, 3 RBI, .326) had two home runs, which was how all the runs scored. He now leads the league in that category with sixteen. SS Jake Schlander (R, CS, E, .272) was on for one of those, as he had a hit and two walks.
Peoria Mariners 2, AZL Padres 3 (ten innings)
RHP Steve Landazuri (3.60) pitched five and let a run score on four hits, a couple wild pitches, three walks, and two Ks. RHP Michael Aviles (6.98) and RHP Jeroen de Haas (4.18) split the next two, Aviles walking one and striking out one, and de Haas adding a wild pitch and a K to those totals. LHP Matt Petiton (5.17, BS, L) had two score against him on four hits and a K in the final two and two-thirds.
SS Bryan Brito (RBI, 2 SB, CS, .149) had a couple hits, 3B Jose Martinez (2B, R, RBI, .150) doubled, and CF Jarrett Burgess (.333) had a single and a walk.
