I had more to say about Smoak today. I will run out of things to say about him soon. Also, Taijuan Walker made his debut. Read on!

Fresno 2 (SF + 16), Tacoma 8
I think the Rainiers, in present form at least, are good. RHP Andy Baldwin (4.72) gave up two runs on seven hits, a couple of walks, and three Ks through five innings. RHP Joe Nelson (6.75) had a hit, a walk, and a K in the next inning and two-thirds, and then LHP Billy Traber (3.86) had similar results in his inning and a third, minus the hit. RHP Mumba Rivera (3.60) struck out two in the ninth. It was his first time pitching since June 25th.
1B Mike Carp (2 HR, 4 RBI, .250) had two home runs in the game in an effort to not be completely forgotten. DH Brad Nelson (HR, 3 RBI, .292) also hit a home run, his ninth, as one of two hits. 2B Jack Hannahan (2 R, .231) had a hit and two walks batting second and 3B Matt Mangini (2 2B, R, .308) doubled twice. Mangini has as many doubles as Carp has home runs, which is fifteen, for the record.

Carolina 9 (CIN + 3), West Tenn 1
RHP Steven Hensley (3.39, L) gave up seven runs on eight hits (HR), two walks, and a K in four innings. I feel as though he has not been good for a while now. RHP Luis Munoz (4.08) let two more runs score on five hits, a wild pitch, a walk, and three Ks in the next three frames. RHP Anthony Varvaro (3.20) and RHP Steven Richard (6.35) both allowed a hit and struck out one in their respective innings of work.
The highlight of the game was probably 1B Nate Tenbrink (HR, .288) going deep for the fourth time. He also drew a walk. 2B Dustin Ackley (E, .260) added two hits and a walk and LF Kuo-hui Lo (.237) had a hit and two walks. None of the new guys seemed to be on the roster, but given that this was the last game before the all-star break, that’s not really surprising.

High Desert 2, Rancho Cucamonga 3 (ANA + 3)
Having gone into the fourth without allowing a hit, this was the best start RHP Andrew Carraway (6.00) had turned in for ages, leaving with two runs having score on five hits, two wild pitches, and eight Ks. Sadly, it was not to be, as RHP Blake Nation (4.94, L) gave up a run on a double that managed to make its way around to score.
The two runs were dingers by 1B Joe Dunigan (HR, .250) and RF Johermyn Chavez (HR, .295), who had two hits. I’m hoping Dunigan is merely getting his knocks in while the Jaxx head into the break. He's listed as a rehabber there. Raben is also listed as being on the DL. That's a new development. SS Kyle Seager (.328) added a single and a walk.

Clinton 4, Kane County 9 (OAK + 2)
RHP Taylor Stanton (3.63) continued to struggle with his command, giving up three runs on six hits, three walks, and two Ks in five innings. RHP Ryan Moorer (5.40) was the one who took the loss though, with two runs scoring on a hit and a walk in an inning+. RHP Brandon Josselyn (3.15) scored both of those and four (one earned) of his own after four hits in the seventh. RHP Jorden Merry (4.66) rung up a pair in the eighth.
2B Gabriel Noriega (RBI, SB, .221) had two singles and SS Nick Franklin (2B, R, 2 E, .281) and RF James Jones (2B, R, .236) both had doubles. Franklin also had two errors, bringing his total to sixteen for the year. Imagine that I am frowning.

Spokane 9 (TEX + 1), Everett 5
LHP Anthony Fernandez (3.25, L) took his first loss, this one certainly deserved as he gave up five runs on seven hits, three walks, and four Ks in five and two-thirds innings. RHP Ogui Diaz (15.43, PO) scored one of those and four more of his own on three hits, a balk, three walks, and a K in the next inning. RHP Austin Hudson (3.95) scored two of those on three hits, two walks, and a K in the final two and a third innings, but nevertheless, I don’t think Diaz is going to make it through cuts at this rate.
One good thing to come out of the game is that 3B Mickey Wiswall (HR, 3 RBI, .143) had his first pro hit leave the yard. I’m thinking that he might hit a few more of those before the season’s through in Everett. 2B Kevin Mailloux (R, RBI, .241) drew two walks and CF Ryan Royster (2B, R, .417) and RF Kevin Rivers (.324) both had a hit and a walk.

Pulaski 1, Danville 7 (ATL + 1)
If this box score is to be believed at the time I’m looking at it, this may be the stupidest thing I’ve seen in a while. RHP Yovanny Olivero (6.65, L) threw a complete game loss, giving up seven runs on twelve hits, a couple of hit batters, and two Ks. That is really, really bad.
The offense wasn’t much better as I only have DH Henry Contrares (.350) worth noting for his hit and a walk.

Peoria Mariners 1, AZL Royals 0
LHP Nate Reed (4.41) pitched the first four innings and allowed a hit and a walk while striking out a pair. Following him, our number one pick RHP Taijuan Walker (0.00, W) made his debut, turning in two perfect innings, striking out three, and getting the win. Pro debuts don’t generally go much better. RHP Preston Vancil (0.00, S) got the save, three innings with two hits and four Ks to show for it. I don’t know how I feel about a rookie league team relying on guys like him and Wilhelmsen for a lot of their success thus far though. It kind of feels cheap.
2B Michael Acevedo (3B, R, E, .385) had two hits in the game and C Ji-man Choi (RBI, SB, .465) had a single and a walk.

VSL Cardinals 3, Aguirre Mariners 4 (eight innings)
LHP Cruz Pereira (3.38, W) gave up two runs on four hits (HR), two walks, and four Ks in five innings of work. RHP Angel Raga (3.47, S) then let a run score on two hits, a hit batter, three wild pitches, and a walk against two Ks through two and a third innings before rain ended this one. Which is great for us, because another run would have tied it.
DH Felipe Burin (2B, RBI, .324) had a double and a walk, and is now tied for sixth in the league in dobles. Huzzah! 1B Miguel Brito (HR, .245) also hit his first pro home run! Huzzah again! SS-3B Ramon Coronel (2 R, RBI, .245) had two singles! Woo?

DSL Brewers 4, Yamasa Mariners 3 (twelve innings)
Weak. LHP Leonel Cortoreal (6.04) let two runs score on a hit, a couple of wild pitches, two hit batters, five walks, and three Ks in four+ innings. That’s not good. RHP Gregorio Aquino (5.40) then pitched the next four and a third innings with a hit, three walks, and five Ks. LHP Martin Abad (1.13) took the loss as he gave up a run on two hits and four Ks in three frames of work, but RHP Yunior de Jesus (1.69) scored that one, and the other run in the twelfth, on two hits, a walk, and a K in two-thirds of an inning.
The “weak” comment refers specifically to the rally in the twelfth coming up a run short, but really, said rally was only LF George Drullard (HR, 2 R, 2-4, BB, .236) hitting his first home run of the season. The rest of the lineup mustered little, so I’m stuck with doubles from 2B George Soto (2B, E, .193) and C Ivan Brea (2B, R, RBI, E, .206), who combined to strike out seven times in other plate appearances.

Yamasa Mariners 5, DSL Brewers 2 (seven innings)
I see that there was a second game and we won it? RHP Domingo Brazoban (6.10) gave up a hit and a walk and struck out five in four innings of work. I hope he’s good because that’s an amazing name. RHP Jochi Ogando (3.91) let two runs (one earned) score on four hits, a wild pitch, two walks, and two Ks in the last three. Same goes for him.
CF Randy Perez (2B, 3 R, RBI, 4 SB, .258) had three hits and a walk in the game, which would be awesome except his double was his first of the year and now I’m confused. But hey, four stolen bases in a game! RF Janelfry Zorilla (R, 2 RBI, .271) added two singles.
