West Tenn 12, Birmingham 7 (CHW - 6)
RHP Steve Bray (3.89) pitched an inning and let four runs score on five hits and two walks. Okay. LHP Robert Rohrbaugh (3.23) pitched the next three and gave up three hits and a walk while striking out three. RHP Luis Munoz (4.30, W) let three score on four hits, a wild pitch, two walks, and four Ks in the three and a third innings after that, and LHP Nick Hill (7.41) scored one of those with a hit, two walks, and a K in the two-thirds that followed. RHP Steven Richard (5.40) allowed a hit and walked one in the ninth.
It was a good game to be hitting baseballs, apparently. CF Brandon Haveman (R, 2 RBI, 2 SB, .295), 2B Leury Bonilla (R, RBI, SB, .258), 1B Johan Limonta (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, .287), 3B Alex Liddi (2 2B, R, 3 RBI, CS, .268), and RF Nate Tenbrink (2B , 2 R, 2 RBI, .299) all had two hits and everyone but Bonilla had a walk too. C Guillermo Quiroz (2B, R, RBI, .324) doubled and LF Carlos Peguero (HR, .271) hit his sixteenth home run. This is all awesome because the lineup started out the month quite horribly, so I will take this opportunity to be irrationally optimisitic.
San Jose 10 (SF - 8), High Desert 4
Still pitching in Adelanto! LHP Jonathan Hesketh (3.45) was fortunate enough to have only one of his seven runs being earned, but then again he only had five hits (HR), a walk, and four Ks in five innings. RHP Chris Kirkland (12.38, E) allowed an unearned run on a hit, a hit batter, and a walk against two Ks in the next two innings and then LHP Bobby LaFromboise (4.30) gave up two runs on two hits (HR), a walk, and two Ks in the last two.
2B Kyle Seager (R, .330) and LF Kuo-hui Lo (2B, R, .667) both had two hits with Lo adding a walk and what this season is now dumb in a kind of new way. DH Jake Shaffer (.322) had a single and a walk.
West Michigan 4 (DET - 7), Clinton 9
RHP Erasmo Ramirez (2.71, W) gave up a run on three hits, three walks, and four Ks in six innings. The losing pitcher was one Nate Newman, who was drafted by us and didn’t sign. This fills me with a small amount of glee, or at least more glee than I would have if he didn’t sign and kicked our asses. RHP John Housey (4.37) let the other three runs (two earned) score on four hits, two walks, and a K in the next two and a third innings and then RHP Daniel Cooper (5.05) allowed a hit and struck out one in the last two-thirds, which scored two of Housey’s runs.
C Blake Ochoa (HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, .556) had a home run and a walk and oh my god why is he in the Midwest League again? LF Luis Nunez (R, SB, .352) and RF James Jones (3B, 2 R, RBI, .247) both had two hits and 1B Tim Morris (R, 2 RBI, .312) and CF Matt Cerione (R, .233) both had a hit and a walk.
Everett 7, Yakima 15 (ARI - 2)
Bears can be dangerous. RHP Yoervis Medina (3.68, L) gave up nine urns, though only two of them were earned, after seven hits, a wild pitch, and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. He now reminds me of Vega in his Everett tenure. RHP Jonathan Arias (4.22) gave up two runs on two hits, a walk, and three Ks in three and a third innings after that. RHP Ogui Diaz (14.46) scored both of Arias’ runs and gave up four more (three earned) on four hits (HR), a wild pitch, a hit batter, and two Ks in the next two and a third innings, and then RHP Fray Martinez (2.08) walked two and struck out two in the last inning and two-thirds. So there you have it! Three guys who used to be infielders, following a pitcher who couldn’t get out of the first in a blowout.
1B Evan Sharpley (2B, R, 2 RBI, .247) had two hits in the game, the only one to do so, though CF Ryan Royster (3B, R, E, .300), DH Jimmy Jacquot (2B, R, RBI, .222), and C Steve Baron (2B, 2 RBI, .174) all had extra-base hits, with Jaquot adding a walk. LF Robbie Anston (R, RBI, .291) had a single and a walk.
Johnson City 10 (STL + 6 ), Pulaski 11
RHP Jesse Nava (7.15) had another rough start, giving up seven runs (six earned) after five hits, three of which left the park, two wild pitches, a walk, a balk, and a K in five and a third innings. After that, RHP Preston Vancil (9.00) came up from Peoria and let a couple of runs score on four hits (HR) and two Ks. LHP Bennett Whitmore (7.88) walked two and threw a wild pitch without recording an out, which brought on LHP Ryan Kiel (1.59, W), who scored one of Vancil’s runs and one of Whitmore’s on a hit, a walk, and a K in two-thirds of an inning. He ended up with the win anyway, and RHP Mathew Bischoff (2.13, S) saved it with a hit, a wild pitch, and a K in the ninth.
It was six-run rally in the eighth inning that put the M’s on top to stay. 2B Jorge Agudelo (2B, 3B, 2 R, RBI, SB, 2-3, .347) tripled, and then Wood reached on an error that scored Agudelo. 1B Andrew Giobbi (R, RBI, 2-4, .333) singled on a groundball, which held Wood, and then Jimenez singled again to load the bases. SS Jake Schlander (RBI, 2 E, 0-2, 2 BB, .208) walked to force in a run, and then CF Mario Yepez (2B, 2 R, RBI, CS, 2-4, BB, .191) grounded into a force to get Schlander at second. With runners at the corners, DH Jetsy Extrano (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2-5, .280) doubled to drive both in and moved to third on the throw, ultimately scoring on a wild pitch to 3B Ramon Morla (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB, E, 2-5, .280), and then it was just two flyouts after that. Oh, and one of those flyouts was LF Jose Rivero (R, RBI, .462), who had a single and a walk.
AZL Reds 1, Peoria Mariners 2
RHP Dylan Unsworth (2.63, W) finally got his first pro win, allowing three hits and striking out four through five innings of work. RHP Jarett Attard (4.50, E) allowed two hits and struck out a pair over the next two+ innings, and then LHP Kody Kurowski (0.00, S) let an unearned run score on a hit in the final two frames.
The top three of 2B Carlos Ramirez (2B, PO, .261), 3B Matt Browning (2B, R, SB, .231), and 1B Ji-man Choi (2B, R, .472) all had a double and a walk, and the four hitter, dH Jose Flores (2 RBI, .268), was just a base off, as he missed the double part of it, but had the walk. RF Rigoberto Rangel (3B, .171) had a triple as well, his first.
DSL was rained out. That’s inaccurate actually, but it was one of the few games that was rained out.
