RHP Ian Snell (3.95, W) let three runs score on seven hits, a wild pitch, two walks, and five Ks in five innings on his way to the win. RHP Anthony Varvaro (0.00) did all right in his triple-A debut, allowing a hit and a walk in the sixth. RHP Scott Patterson (1.35) struck out one in the seventh, and then LHP Edward Paredes (108.00) came on and you can probably guess that I don’t have similar things I can say about his debut as I did with Varvaro. Well, Paredes let four runs score on three hits (HR) and two walks and after recording one out gave way to RHP Levale Speigner (4.43, S) who went the rest of the distance.
I’ll avert the suspense and tell you that 2B Dustin Ackley (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, .200) had a home run on the first pitch of his first at-bat and didn’t do much else in the game. 3B Matt Tuiasosopo (2B, R, 2 RBI, .298), CF Gregory Halman (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB, .261), and RF David Winfree (HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, .289) all had three hits though, and Tui even added a walk. Twentieth home run for Halman! SS Chris Woodward (R, .225) walked three times in the leadoff spot, which is nice too. DH Brad Nelson (R, RBI, .283) walked twice, and 1B Matt Mangini (R, RBI, .310) and LF Mike Wilson (R, .292) both had a single and a walk.
West Tenn 0, Birmingham 1 (CHW - 5)
RHP Jarrett Grube (2.59, L) gave up the only run of the game on seven hits, three walks, and six Ks. Seems a bit unfair. RHP Josh Lueke (0.00) then debuted and allowed a hit while striking out three, which is pretty awesome.
The D-Jaxx were held to three hits and a walk. SS Carlos Triunfel (2B, E, .280) had two of those hits. Lawson didn’t play today?
San Jose 7 (SF - 7), High Desert 5
RHP Jake Wild (5.73, PO, L) gave up four runs on ten hits, a wild pitch, a hit batter, two walks, and three Ks in five innings. Hey, no home runs? RHP Cheyne Hann (6.00) got the next inning and two-thirds and let two score on five hits and a K, then RHP Stephen Penney (2.44) had an unearned run score against him on a hit and two Ks in the next inning and a third. RHP Wes Littleton (2.45) had a hit, a wild pitch, two walks, and a K in the ninth, but no runs.
3B Kyle Seager (3B, R, .331) and DH Jake Shaffer (2B, 3 RBI, .325) both had two hits in the game, which falls a bit behind RF Johermyn Chavez (HR, 2 R, RBI, .294) reaching three times on his twenty-first home run and two walks. LF Kuo-hui Lo (R, .500) had a hit and a walk. Poythress also briefly played for the first time since the 8th after EM-E was ejected.
West Michigan 7 (DET - 6), Clinton 1
This sucked. RHP Nolan Gallagher (3.52, L) dropped to 0-3 after letting two runs score on six hits, a wild pitch, two hit batters, and three walks against two Ks in five and two-thirds innings. RHP Jorden Merry (5.73) also had two runs score against him, these in an inning and a third on three hits, a wild pitch, and a walk with two Ks. RHP Ryan Moorer (5.14) had a run score against him on two hits, a wild pitch, and a walk in the eighth and RHP Taylor Lewis (6.46) let two score on three hits and two walks in the ninth.
SS Nick Franklin (HR, .285) hit a home run and then was hit by a pitch and removed for a pinch-runner. HERE COMES THE PANIC NOW. I don’t even have any idea what’s happening and I’m already in a panic. 1B Tim Morris (.313) added a single and a walk and LF Matt Cerione (.242) had a couple of singles.
Everett 2, Yakima 1 (ARI - 3)
LHP Anthony Fernandez (2.94) gave up a run on five hits, a wild pitch, and a walk while striking out six in the same number of innings and sadly did not get the win. RHP Willy Kesler (3.29, W) did, giving up a hit and striking out a pair in two innings of work. RHP Stephen Pryor (0.75, S) had similar results, less an inning.
LF Ryan Royster (2 2B, R, .333) had two hits and two walks in the game from the leadoff spot. He should be promoted or something. RF Kevin Rivers (RBI, .311), DH Mickey Wiswall (2B, .214), and SS Terry Serrano (2B, RBI, .260) all had just the two hits, while C Jimmy Jacquot (.228) had a single and a walk.
Johnson City 3 (STL + 5), Pulaski 5
We’re taking on one of the top teams in the league and winning? NEAT. RHP George Mieses (3.64, W) finally got his first win of the year after allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk against three Ks in six innings. RHP Tim Griffin (9.26, S) had a three-inning save where he gave up a solo home run, two other hits, and struck out a pair.
C Hassiel Jimenez (2B, R, .278) had a couple of hits out of the eighth spot in the order and CF Mario Yepez (3B, R, RBI, .194) had DH Jetsy Extrano (2B, R, RBI, .278) both had extra-base hits batting one-two in the order. There was only one walk?
AZL Padres 5, Peoria Mariners 1
We had four pitchers go two innings and one pitcher go one in this one. Only one of the runs that scored was earned. Anyway, RHP Eric Valdez (0.00) gave up a hit and struck out three, then RHP Taijuan Walker (0.00, L) let two unearned runs score on a hit, three wild pitches, a hit batter, and two walks against three Ks. Newcomer RHP Michael Petiton (0.00) allowed a hit in the next span. Only now did I realize that his last name wasn’t Petition. RHP Jeroen de Haas (4.91) had similar problems to Walker, insofar as there were unearned runs, though he only had one wild pitch, three hits, and a K. RHP Michael Aviles (12.54) gave up a run on two hits in the ninth.
RF Robert Rodriguez (RBI, PO, .194) had two hits and 3B Jose Martinez (.146) had a hit and a walk.
Aguirre Mariners 5, VSL Tigers 2
RHP Maikel Ynfantes (2.92, W) let two runs score on five hits, a wild pitch, and a walk against six Ks through eight and a third innings. Not wanting him to go the distance, they brought in RHP Kevin Quintanilla (4.22) for the last two outs.
1B Miguel Brito (2B, 3 RBI, CS, .260) had three hits and who knows maybe he’s coming along or something? 2B Felipe Burin (2 R, 2 E, .310) had a hit and a couple of walks and the verdict on him is already that he is awesome. He has eleven more walks than strikeouts. Who does that in the VSL? LF Reginald Lampe (.309) and DH Jose Kalbakgi (2B, R, .176) both had a hit and a walk.
Yamasa Mariners 7, DSL Cardinals 6
RHP Joan Vizcaino (3.14) let two score on four hits and a K in the first two innings. Following him, RHP Enrique Rosario (5.14) got himself into some trouble with four runs on five hits (HR), two wild pitches, a hit batter, two walks, and four Ks in two and two-thirds innings. Things calmed down after that, with LHP Leoncio Munoz (2.38, W) allowing two hits, a wild pitch, and a walk against two Ks in the next three and a third innings and LHP Martin Abad (1.08, S) striking out one in the ninth.
2B George Soto (HR, 4 RBI, .195) hit a ninth-inning, two out grand slam. That’s pretty special. He also walked. Less special but still important. 1B-3B Jordy Lara (E, .155) drew two walks, C Rudy van Heydoorn (2B, .294) had a double, and DH Axel Wel (2 R, RBI, .179), LF Estarlyn Morales (2B, R, RBI, A, .167), and SS Noe Berro (2B, E, .212) all had a hit and a walk.
