Fresno 9 (SF + 18), Tacoma 5
LHP Chris Seddon (4.14, L) couldn’t follow one good outing with another and let seven runs plate on twelve hits, a hit batter, two walks, and three Ks in four and a third innings of work. RHP Steve Palazzolo (2.79) allowed one hit and struck out three over the next two and two-thirds innings, which was good, as was RHP Wes Littleton (9.00) allowing one hit and striking out a pair in the eighth. The two runs on two hits and two walks by RHP Scott Patterson (18.00) in his Rainiers debut, not so much.
SS Jack Wilson (HR .375) hit a home run tonight! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! LF Chris Woodward (2B, R, .227), 1B Brad Nelson (2B, R, RBI, .273), 2B Jack Hannahan (2B, RBI, .192), and 3B Matt Mangini (2B, RBI, 2 E, .297) all had doubles. That’s okay too. C Adam Moore (.500) was in on rehab and was 1-for-2.

West Tenn 11, Tennessee 3 (CHC + 12)
Considering both teams have been about equally hot, this could be a decisive series, both for Tennessee pride and the fate of each team in the first half. RHP Steve Bray (2.57, W) put in one of his usual efforts, with two runs scoring on four hits, a couple of hit batters, and a walk in six innings of work, sans any Ks. RHP Mumba Rivera (6.92) was in a similar predicament, with a run scoring on two hits (HR) in the next two innings. RHP Anthony Varvaro (2.84) had a double, a wild pitch, and the team’s only strikeout to his line in the ninth.
I’ll break from the usual trend to open with the double and the home run for 3B Alex Liddi (2B, HR, 3 RBI, .296) and SS Carlos Triunfel (2B, HR, 4 RBI, CS, .288) because I think that’s probably more significant. It was the fifth home run for Liddi and the fourth for Triunfel. Liddi also drew a walk. We’re nine games into June and Liddi has already tied his monthly double totals for April and May, as well as the walk total for April. Beyond that, 1B Johan Limonta (2B, 2 R, .310) had two hits and two walks, LF Carlos Peguero (2 R, .304) had three hits, and RF Kuo-hui Lo (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, .245) and DH Scott Savastano (2 R, RBI, .302) had two hits apiece.

Rancho Cucamonga 15 (ANA + 9), High Desert 12
Stupid ball. Smash. RHP Andrew Carraway (4.10) let eleven runs (eight earned) score after eight hits (3 HR!!!), a couple wild pitches, a hit batter, two walks, and two Ks in four innings. Blah. RHP Cheyne Hann (5.28) then had a hit and a K in the next frame. RHP Ryan Moorer (8.10) let two more score through the seventh on four hits and a walk, and then RHP Blake Nation (5.40) let another two score on three hits (HR) and three Ks in the eighth. Good times. RHP Steven Richard (3.29) had an uneventful ninth.
LF Dennis Raben (HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, .417) and DH Jake Shaffer (2B, R, 2 RBI, CS, .295) both had three hits in the game, with Raben adding a walk. Raben is good. 2B Shaver Hansen (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, .229) had a rare home run to go with a pair of walks. SS Juan Diaz (2 R, RBI, .292) and 1B Rich Poythress (R, RBI, .291) both had two hits, with Poythress adding a walk, RF Johermyn Chavez (HR, A, .295) hit his eighth home run, and 3B Kyle Seager (2 R, RBI, 2 E, .314) had a hit and a walk. That’s an awful lot of offense for a team that did not win.

Kenn Kasparek and Rich Poythress are both Cal League All-Stars and what, no Kyle Seager? This is awkward.

Lake County 5 (CLE + 18), Clinton 15
The best comes last again for the stateside affiliates as the Lumberkings took the series from one of the most dangerous teams in the league. LHP Jimmy Gilheeney (2.82, W) wasn’t brilliant, but managed his fourth win anyway after letting two runs score on five hits, four walks, and five Ks in five innings. LHP Jose Jimenez (9.00) might’ve been, as he only had a hit, a walk, and four strikeouts through two innings, but then RHP Jorden Merry (9.00) let a run score on two hits in the eighth and RHP Daniel Cooper (4.50) let two score on three hits, a wild pitch, and a walk in the ninth.
SS Nick Franklin (2B, HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, .315) and 1B Vinnie Catricala (HR, 2 R, 5 RBI, .295) both had three hits, including home runs, and a walk for Catricala and I’m definitely not shutting up about the injustoce of Franklin not starting the all-star game any time soon. DH Tim Morris (R, 2 RBI, .304), 3B Mario Martinez (R, .242), C Steve Baron (2B, R, RBI, PB, .184), and 2B-SS Gabriel Noriega (2B, 2 R, RBI, E, .212) all had two hits in the game, CF Matt Cerione (3B, 2 R, RBI, .215) had a triple and a walk, RF James Jones (2 R, 2 SB, .204) drew two walks, LF Wellington Dotel (2B, R, 2 RBI, SB, .261) doubled, and that’s everyone.

VSL Tigers 7, Aguirre Mariners 8
The Aguirre M’s may not be as bad as I originally feared. RHP Jose Flores (2.13) gave up two runs on four hits, a hit batter, a walk, and two Ks in four innings of work. RHP Maikel Ynfantes (5.87) then let four (two earned) plate on three hits, two walks, and three Ks. None of this was good, and I’d say that the inning from LHP Cruz Pereira (2.08, PO,W) was merely competent, as he gave up a walk and struck out one, and likewise, the pitching from RHP Ricardo Pereira (2.89, S) was not so great as he let a run score on two hits in the ninth.
No, it was the hitting that had to carry the team, and while there weren’t any more home runs, I couldn’t say we were disappointed either. SS-3B Felipe Burin (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB, .290) had two hits and two walks in the leadoff spot, DH Michael Acevedo (2B, R, 2 RBI, .333) and 3B Miguel Brito (2B, R, RBI, 2 E, .240) both had doubles, with Acevedo drawing a walk, and 1B Reginald Lampe (2B, RBI, .222) had two hits. CGF Rashynol Michel (R, RBI, E, .375) also had a single and a walk.

Yamasa Mariners 1, DSL Cardinals 5 (seven innings)
Are the DSL M’s as bad as I thought? Probably. LHP Leoncio Munoz (2.35, E, L) let five runs (two earned) score after five hits, a couple wild pitches, three walks, and a K in three and two-thirds innings. RHP Gregorio Aquino (10.80) allowed a hit and struck out a pair in the final two and a third innings.
The only noteworthy for the offense was C Rudy van Heydoorn (2B, R, PB, .375). He’s often the only noteworthy.

DSL Cardinals 1, Yamasa Mariners 3 (seven innings)
Game two was better. LHP Leonel Cortoreal (0.00) made his pro debut, with an unearned run allowed on two hits, a wild pitch, a balk, a hit batter, a walk, and three Ks in the four inning start. RHP Augusto Marte (0.000) allowed two hits, hit a batter, and struck out three in the final three innings.
3B David Batista (R, RBI, .308) had a single and a walk in the game and C Ivan Brea (2B, R, .133) doubled.
