And now, a return to normalcy. Sort of. LHP Ryan Feierabend (7.82, PO, L) gave up five runs on twelve hits (HR), a walk, and three Ks in five and two-thirds innings. I want to say that he had major surgery and that we’d all do well to be patient with him and all that, but if he’s lost velocity, his major league career is probably toast. RHP Mike Koplove (4.79) gave up two more runs after a home run, a hit batter, three walks, and two Ks in two and a third innings. That could have been worse. RHP Wes Littleton (6.00) allowed one hit in the ninth.
SS Chris Woodward (R, .237) and 3B Jack Hannahan (.214) were both on three times, Woodward with a bunch of singles, Hannahan with two singles and a walk. No one had an extra-base hit today. 1B Matt Mangini (.292) and RF Mike Wilson (.254) reached twice though, Mangini with a single and a walk and Wilson with a pair of walks. No Jack Wilson; Moore was 1-for-4.
West Tenn 5, Tennessee 7 (CHC + 13)
After losing with one of our better starters on the mound, I can’t say I’m feeling overwhelmingly confident that we’re going to take the series tomorrow. RHP Steve Hensley (2.34, L) gave up five runs on five hits, a hit batter, two walks, and four Ks in six and a third innings. Blame RHP Luis Munoz (3.60, BS) for three of those, and on top of that, the loss, as he let two more score on three hits (HR) in the final inning and two-thirds. There was a grand slam in there. You might have guessed.
The offense featured the unlikely home run duo of CF Brandon Haveman (HR, 2 RBI, 1-5, .295) and 2B Jeff Dominguez (2B, HR, 2 R, 2-3, BB, .217), hitting their first and second home runs of the year, respectively. I say this because Dominguez averages a home run every 166 at-bats and Haveman is 5’9, though certainly endowed with some hitting talent. DH Dustin Ackley (2B, RBI, .251) had two hits and a walk because that’s what he does now, the Carloses, LF Carlos Peguero (RBI, .302) and SS Carlos Triunfel (R, .289), both had a hit and a walk, and C Ralph Henriquez (2B, R, .273) doubled. Liddi didn’t do anything, but after checking, he’s still .391/.483/.826 in the last seven games.
High Desert 8, Visalia 10 (ARI 0)
So the dams burst. RHP Maikel Cleto (6.17, L) got roughed up, with seven runs scoring on four hits, four wild pitches, and two walks. I would imagine that he’s re-examined and possibly put on the DL. RHP Marwin Vega (5.14) scored two of those on three hits, a wild pitch, a walk, and a pair of strikeouts in the next inning and a third. Getting the piggyback start after throwing a complete game his last time out, RHP Kenn Kasparek (2.41) let two runs score on four hits (HR) and four walks this time. RHP Stephen Penney (3.67) had an unearned run score against him on a hit and a K in the ninth.
There was only one home run apiece for each team and three doubles total. C Trevor Coleman (HR, 3 RBI, PB, .202) had the home run, his second of the year, and 3B Edilio Colina (2B, R, .304) had the double, joining CF Denny Almonte (R, RBI, .303) and 1B Rich Poythress (2 R, RBI, E, .292) as those with two hits. No one walked.
Fort Wayne 6 (SD 0), Clinton 2
LHP Jonathan Hesketh (4.55) had a good start go to waste as he allowed a run to score on four hits (HR), a walk, and nine Ks. The culprit in this case was the usually solid RHP Chris Kirkland (2.25, PO, BS, L), who let five runs (four earned) score on six hits (HR), a couple wild pitches, a plunked batter, and a strikeout in an inning and a third. RHP Brandon Josselyn (3.96) rung up four of the last five hitters faced.
SS Nick Franklin (2B, .310) and 3B Vinnie Catricala (.301) both had two hits and RF James Jones (R, CS, .205) had a single and a walk.
VSL Reds 3, Aguirre Mariners 5 (seven innings)
This game was also wrapped up early. LHP Oscar Bravo (0.00) had two hits and two strikeouts in two innings of work. RHP Ivan Julio (1.13, W) came next and threw four innings, with a run scoring on seven hits, a balk, and a hit batter. It was probably a good thing that the game ended when it did because RHP Jose Mendoza (8.31) had given up two runs on two hits and a hit batter in a third of an inning.
Before it did end, RF Alexy Palma (2 RBI, .324) got three hits in because why not? 3B Miguel Brito (.255) added two singles and LF Michael Acevedo (R, RBI, .343) had a single and a walk.
