Tacoma 5, Colorado Springs 7 (COL - 2)
RHP Andy Baldwin (4.42, L) only lasted four and two-thirds innings, giving up seven runs (three earned) after nine hits, two walks, and a K. RHP Mike Koplove (4.50) got through the next inning and a third allowing a hit and striking out a pair, and newcomer LHP Bily Traber (0.00, PO) had the same totals in his inning of work. RHP Scott Patterson (4.50) had a hit and a strikeout in the ninth.
The offense got a couple of hits from SS Jack Wilson (2B, SB, .333), playing the full nine innings, and 3B Matt Mangini (R, 2 E, .302), along with a hit and a walk from 2B Jack Hannahan (2B, R, RBI, .217) and CF Gregory Halman (2 R, .237) and doubles by DH Tommy Everidge (2B, R, .236) and C Guillermo Quiroz (2B, 2 RBI, PB, .217)
Chattanooga 14 (LA - 4) West Tenn 2
I think the D-Jaxx’ playoff hopes for the first half are close to dead now. LHP Mauricio Robles (4.41) let nine runs (eight earned) on ten hits, two walks, and two Ks in two and a third innings. The recent crowing over him was premature I think. On the plus side, LHP Robert Rohrbaugh (2.40) pitched the next three and two-thirds innings, only allowing one run to score on three hits and striking out seven. Rohrbaugh scored one of Robles’ runs and in turn, RHP Steven Richard (36.00), just promoted from High Desert, scored one of Rohrbaugh’s, and four more after five hits and two Ks. RHP Aaron Jensen (4.32) had a hit and a K in the eighth, and because it isn’t a blowout unless he takes the mound, RHP Leury Bonilla (22.50) had the same plus a hit in the ninth. I like Bonilla. He’s willing to do whatever he has to for the team.
Nearly everyone had a hit in the game, but since it was mostly singles, you have to go with the duo of C Ralph Henriquez (2B, R, .421) and CF Brandon Haveman (2B, .316) for notables because both had three hits in the game.
Lancaster 2 (HOU - 15), High Desert 3
There’s something to be said for persistence. LHP Anthony Vasquez (1.98, W) gave up a run in both the sixth and the seventh innings, and since the bats weren’t up to much at that point, put his team in a 2-0 hole. But he managed to throw the complete game, with nine hits allowed, a wild pitch, only one of the runs earned, and three Ks, and got the win after the team finally managed to rally in the eighth and ninth innings. I want more strikeouts, I always do, but other than that I’m warming up to the idea of Vasquez as potentially a legitimate pitcher, or as legitimate as southpaws without extraordinary velocity are likely to be at this stage.
SS Edilio Colina (R, .310) and 1B Rich Poythress (RBI, .299) both had two hits and took part in various forms of runs scoring, and C Trevor Coleman (R, .203) had a single and a walk.
Wisconsin 2 (MIL - 18), Clinton 3
Hey we won a game. It’s kind of too late but okay. RHP Erasmo Ramirez (2.31) gave up two runs (one earned) on eight hits, three hit batters, and six Ks in seven innings. He is not afraid to pitch inside. LHP Brian Moran (1.57, W) had a single and a walk and NO Ks? in the final two innings.
I’ll have to go with CF Daniel Carroll (2 RBI, SB, CS, .261), RF Wellington Dotel (.284), and LF Kalian Sams (RBI, .176) for notables because they all had a hit and a walk and no one had more than a single. Sams’ single was a RBI one in the ninth to drive in Catricala, thus, walk off.
VSL was rained out.
Yamasa Mariners 9, DSL Brewers 6
More offense! RHP Jochi Ogando (2.35, W) actually had a decent start, giving up just four hits and two walks against four Ks through six innings of work. It was RHP Gregorio Aquino (21.60) who took the damage, allowing four hits, a wild pitch, and a walk without recording an out. Those would come around to score as six runs, four earned, and LHP Henry Perez (0.00, S) couldn’t avoid scoring the one runner he inherited, but otherwise only allowed a walk and struck out four in three innings of work.
DH Rudy van Heydoorn (2 HR, 3 R, 4 RBI, .405) was 3-for-3 with two walks and his second and third home runs and good lord why is he playing in the DSL when he’s now batting .405/.463/.618. Blah. This new administration’s policy for summer league promotions confuses me. CF Randy Perez (3B, 2 R, RBI, SB, CS, .222) also got on five times with two hits and three walks. LF Janelfry Zorilla (2 R, .213) walked twice and 2B George Soto (2 RBI, E, .231) had a single and a walk.
