Tacoma 4, Portland 2 (SD - 19)
RHP David Pauley (3.68, L) ended up with his sixth loss after giving up three runs on seven hits, three walks, and four Ks in six innings of work. RHP Yusmeiro Petit (5.73) then had a hit anda K in the next inning and was followed by RHP Mumba Rivera (0.00), who allowed a hit and hit one in the ninth. Mumba Rivera has a 0.00 ERA now.
1B Brad Nelson (2B, .291) had a double and C Adam Moore (.588) had a single and a walk before he got pulled. There was a newcomer in LF David Winfree, who was formerly of the Twins system after being drafted by them back in ’03.

Yakima 5 (ARI - 2), Everett 6
This game was a bit crazy too. RHP Chris Sorce (4.50) let three runs score on four hits (2 HR!) and a walk against five Ks. RHP Jorden Merry (4.50) pitched two+ innings after that and had a pair of runs, one earned, score against him after two walks and two Ks. As RHP Austin Hudson (4.50, BS, W) came on, it got a little worse, because the guy at the plate hit a dribbler in front of home plate, which Baron tried to grab, having barehanded a throw to first earlier in the game. This time, however, he threw the ball and it got away from Sharpley at first, and as the Bears’ second runner was rounding third at the time, Sharpley threw to home, which missed Baron’s glove by a few inches and the runner barreled into him. The ump called time and Baron was up within a few seconds. The rest of Hudson’s inning was less interesting as he just struck out one and stranded the remaining runner.
This brought on the ninth inning of a tie game, and the Aquasox weren’t about to lose their first game. SS Anthony Phillips (2B, R, PO, 1-2, 2 BB, .200) doubled to open the inning, then CF Dwight Britton (HR, SB, .222) struck out for the third time, which brought on 2B Terry Serrano (RBI, 1-4, BB, .467), who worked the count full and then lined one up the middle to make the first game of the homestand a walk-off victory. Other notable players from the offense included 3B Kevin Mailloux (2B, R, E, .462), 1B Evan Sharpley (R, RBI, .231), and C Steve Baron (HR, 2 RBI, E, .286), who all had two hits in the game. You guys, I saw Steve Baron hit a home run to left field. DH Kevin Rivers (2B, RBI, .250) and RF Jose Rivero (2B, R, SB, .200) both had doubles. Rivers just barely missed a home run. Rivero, on the other hand, had two at-bats where he seemed to be swinging at everything and to heck with the consequences.

Peoria Mariners 7, AZL Rangers 4
LHP Erik Bedard (3.38) got his rehab start in and gave up a run on four hits, a wild pitch, and three Ks with five groundouts. That run scored on a balk by RHP Seon Gi Kim (5.06, W), who gave up three runs total on seven hits, a wild pitch, and a walk against five Ks in five and a third innings. He was good earlier in the game though. RHP Danny Ayala (0.00, S) struck out one in the ninth. I don’t know how much he pitches this year considering he was on that arm strengthening program and all.
SS Danny Lopez (3 R, .667) had two hits and two walks leading off, a little better than 2B Carlos Ramirez (2 R, CS, .667), C Ji-Man Choi (R, 2 RBI, 1.000), and 1B Jose Flores (2B, RBI, CS, .667) all having two hits and a walk. Choi’s probably going to be Kim’s personal catcher for a while but I don’t know what they’re going to do the rest of the time. CF Alfredo Morales (2 2B, R, .400) had two doubles and I’m a little surprised to see him in the states. Likewise with 3B Jose Martinez (2B, E, .250), who doubled.

Aguirre Mariners 2, VSL Pirates 6
RHP Daniel Mata (4.67, L) gave up three runs on five hits, a wild pitch, a hit batter, a walk, and two Ks in three innings of work. RHP Kevin Quintanilla (3.46) then gave up two runs on two hits, a wild pitch, and two walks against a K in the fourth. The innings pitched pattern continued as RHP Maikel Ynfantes (3.77) and RHP Jesus Pirela (4.50) took the mound, with Ynfantes allowing a run on three hits, a hit batter, and three Ks and Pirela walking a pair. Ynfantes also scored two of Quintanilla’s runs.
CF Jesus Ugueto (RBI, SB, A, .250) had three hits, all singles in his case. SS Roberto Velasquez (2B, R, .327) and C Ivan Ramirez (2B, E, .355) both had two hits and Velasquez drew a walk.

DSL Brewers 2, Yamasa Mariners 4
RHP Ambioris Hidalgo (3.79, W) got the win after allowing a run to score on four hits, a hit batter, two walks, and eight Ks in five innings. That’s good! LHP Martin Abad (1.29, S) struck out one in the final inning. Also good!
The offense got a home run from RF Estarlyn Morales (HR, .150), a triple by 2B George Soto (3B, RBI, .230), and a double and a walk from RF Efrain Nunez (2B, 2 R, .150).
