News! Chris Seddon is your PCL Pitcher of the Week, Liddi and Peguero are on the World roster for the Futures Game, and I’m making the trip to Tacoma tomorrow to watch Pineda and run around frantically trying to liveblog things with Marc over at USSM. It’ll be fun until my battery dies.

Salt Lake 0 (ANA - 1), Tacoma 8 (seven innings)
Hey, how about that? RHP Ian Snell (0.00, W) pitched five innings and allowed four hits and three walks while striking out nine. If not for the walks, I’d like it. Also the lingering questions about whether it’s repeatable at the major league level. LHP Billy Traber (0.00) struck out one in the next inning and RHP Mumba Rivera (0.00) walked one in the following frame.
3B Matt Tuiasosopo (2B, HR, 2 R, .387) returned to Tacoma with a bang, going 3-for-3 with a walk and a home run, in the first inning I might add. RF Dave Winfree (2B, RBI, .333) and LF Mike Wilson (2B, 2 R, SB, .274) both had a couple of hits, CF Gregory Halman (HR, .235) contributed the team’s other home run, and SS Chris Woodward (2B, RBI, .238) and 2B Jack Hannahan (2B, 2 RBI, .217) both doubled.

Salt Lake 5 (0), Tacoma 1 (seven innings)
RHP Andy Baldwin (4.73, L) gave up five runs on seven hits (2 HR!) and a walk in six innings of work and didn’t strike out anyone. RHP Scott Patterson (3.60) did, with two Ks in the seventh.
SS Chris Woodward (.240) and LF Mike Wilson (R, E, .271) both drew a couple of walks with Woodward adding a single. The team was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded eleven.

West Tenn 3, Montgomery 4 (TB)
The usual methods weren’t working for RHP Steve Bray (3.07, L), who let three runs score on seven hits (HR), a wild pitch, a walk, and six Ks in five and two-thirds innings. LHP Robert Rohrbaugh (2.51) pitched the next inning and two-thirds, also giving up a home run as one of two hits as well as walking one and striking out one. RHP Aaron Jensen (4.24) walked one while recording the final two outs.
DH Johan Limonta (HR, 2 RBI, .293) hit a home run in the game, his ninth. He’s had more home runs this year than he did all of last year, but he’s also slugging about sixty points higher, which would do it. LF Carlos Peguero (R, .298) drew two walks and 3B Alex Liddi (.291) and 2B Leury Bonilla (CS, .217) both had a hit and a walk.

Yakima 3 (ARI – 3), Everett 5
Still undefeated! And LHP Edlando Seco (3.86) is still walking the world, as he had two runs score on two hits (HR), two wild pitches, five walks, and seven Ks in four and two-thirds innings. No making it to the minimum with that many pitches. RHP Forrest Snow (0.00) struck out one in the next inning and a third. This must have been one of those scorer decisions, because even though the Sox scored four runs in the first three innings and Snow should have been in line for the win, RHP Ogui Diaz (6.75, W) got it, allowing a walk and striking out three in the next two innings. RHP Fray Martinez (0.00, S) let an unearned run score on a hit, a walk, and two Ks in the ninth.
DH Jimmy Jacquot (RBI, .385) had three hits in the game and 1B Kevin Mailloux (2B, R, RBI, SB, .444) and RF Kevin Rivers (2 R, RBI, .300) both had two, with Rivers adding a walk. Speaking of walks, LF-CF Robbie Anston (.231) had two of those to go with his hit, where SS Terry Serrano (2 R, 2 SB, E, .421), 3B Evan Sharpley (RBI, .250), and 2B Anthony Phillips (E, .231) all did the single and walk routine. You may be noticing some funny business as positioning goes, particularly with Sharpley and Mailloux trading places, but also with Serrano and Phillips, and Anston trading spots with Britton during the game. I don’t get it. It’s probably a versatility thing.

Bluefield 4 (BAL), Pulaski 8
RHP Nolan Diaz (3.60, W), returning to be the opening day starter, gave up three runs (two earned) through five innings after five hits, a hit batter, a walk, and four Ks. He had a little trouble later in the game. RHP Yovanny Olivero (3.00) let a run score on a hit, a walk, and five Ks over the next three, and then RHP Matthew Bischoff (0.00) made his pro debut with a hit batter and a strikeout for the final inning.
3B Ramon Morla (2B, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, SB, CS, 1.000), who I think was a high dollar signing back in the day and just didn’t do a lot his first three season, went 4-for-4 in his Appalachian League debut. CF Mario Yepez (R, .000) and 1B Ethan Paquette (R, RBI, .000) both had two walks, RF Jorge Agudelo (R, 2 SB, .500) had two hits, LF James Wood (R, SB, .500) had a single and a walk, and SS Jake Schandler (2B, 2 RBI, .333) doubled.

Peoria Mariners 6, AZL Padres 3
RHP Nolan Gallagher (1.80, W) pitched five innings and let a run score on four hits, a wild pitch, two walks, and five Ks. We haven’t seen him since around this time 2008, but it feels like longer since he missed the first half of that season after minor elbow surgery, leading up to the major one last year. RHP Tom Wilhelmsen (0.00) walked one and struck out three in the next two innings. The two vets were followed by new guys RHP Nathan Reed (0.00), who pitched a frame and allowed a hit and a walk, and RHP Michael Aviles (18.00), who had two runs score against him after two hits (HR) and a K.
CF Alfredo Morales (2B, 2 R, RBI, .500) continued to hit with another three tonight. 2B Carlos Ramirez (R, RBI, .333) and 3B Jose Martinez (2 RBI, SB, .286) both had two walks in the game, with Martinez adding a hit, and 1B Jose Flores (2B, R, 2 RBI, CS, .429) had a double and a walk. There were ten walks total by the M’s.

No summer leagues this time around. One was off, the other had rain.
