In his triple-A debut, RHP Michael Pineda (0.00, W) threw six innings, only allowing one hit and walking three while striking out five. I was at this game. I will probably have things to say about it later. For now, Pineda disarmed a fairly potent offense. RHP Mike Koplove (4.50) found out how potent as he let two runs score on four hits (HR) in the next two innings before giving the ball to RHP Levale Speigner (6.04), who allowed a hit and struck out one.
Two of the castoffs of the good ship Mariner, 3B Matt Tuiasosopo (2 R, .389) and CC Adam Moore (2B, R, RBI, .500), had two hits apiece. They weren’t the only ones, as 1B Brad Nelson (2B, RBI, .291), RF David Winfree (R, RBI, .385), CF Gregory Halman (2B, R, RBI, E, .239), and LF Mike Wilson (HR, 2 RBI, .279) all had two hits. Halman drew a walk. I witnessed Halman drawing a walk. I also saw Mike Wilson put one into the parking lot behind the stadium. 2B Jack Hannahan (.220) had a single and a walk and flailing stab at a line drive that probably was the play of the game even if he ultimately tipped over.
West Tenn 11, Montgomery 6 (TB 0)
LHP Mauricio Robles (4.61, W) gave up four runs on three hits (HR), four walks, and three Ks in five innings of work. By contrast, the opposing starter walked six, struck out one, and left after four innings having allowed five runs to score. Progress, by comparison. RHP Luis Munoz (3.88) walked one in the next two innings, then RHP Steve Palazzolo (13.50) let two score on four hits (HR), a wild pitch, and a K in the next inning and a third before LHP Edward Paredes (2.60) allowed a hit and struck out one over the final two outs in the ninth.
RF Scott Savastano (2 R, RBI, CS, .316) had a single and four walks in the game. Things that make me go, “buh?” While no one was touching his five times reached, a few managed three, including 1B Johan Limonta (2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, .297), 3B Alex Liddi (R, SB, .290), and CF Brandon Haveman (2 R, RBI, .296), the first and the last getting two hits and a walk while Liddi had a hit and two walks. LF Carlos Peguero (R, CS, .299) and C Jose Yepez (2B, R, 2 RBI, .337) both had two hits while DH Dustin Ackley (R, .251) and 2B Leury Bonilla (2B, R, 3 RBI, SB, .220) had a hit and a walk each.
Yakima 2 (ARI – 4), Everett 4
Still undefeated! RHP Yoervis Medina (1.54) threw five and two-thirds innings, with a couple of runs (one earned) scoring on four hits, a wild pitch, a hit batter, three walks, and seven Ks. RHP Austin Hudson (3.38, W) got his second win of the homestand with a hit batter, a walk, and a K in an inning and a third of work. His hit batter was the same as Medina’s. RHP Stephen Pryor (0.00, S) finally debuted and had a hit, a walk, and four Ks in the final two innings. I hear he’s pretty good.
The five through seven hitters, C Jimmy Jacquot (2B, R, RBI, .353), 1B Evan Sharpley (2B, 2 RBI, E, .263), and RF Jose Rivero (2B, RBI, CS, .222) all had doubles in the game. Ahead of that pack, LF Kevin Rivers (R, .318) had a hit and two walks and 3B Kevin Mailloux (R, .429) had a single and a walk ahead of him.
Bluefield 14 (BAL 0), Pulaski 0
RHP Jesse Nava (12.00, L) didn’t really have an easy time, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits (HR), two walks, and four Ks in three innings. RHP Yao Wen Chang (15.00, PO) didn’t either, as he let six plate (five earned) after eight hits, two wild pitches, and two walks against three Ks in three innings as well. LHP Ryan Kiel (0.00) had two hits, two wild pitches, and two walks, but no runs and three strikeouts in the next two innings, and then RHP Josh Krist (18.00) had three (two earned) score on four hits in the ninth. Not a good day for pitching or defense.
Offense!... No, not really. 3B Ramon Morla (2 E, .857) had a couple of singles and a walk, 1B Ethan Paquette (E, .333) had two singles, and DH Julio Morban (.000) walked twice. Morla and Paguette only had 37.5% of the defensive miscues. It was bad.
No summer leagues this time around. One was off, the other had rain. I MEAN IT THIS TIME.
