Tennessee 10 (CHC + 1), West Tenn 3
Oh my. RHP Steven Hensley (2.79, L) gave up three runs through four and a third innings after four hits, two walks, and four Ks. I am alarmed by his recent outings. LHP Robert Rohrbaugh (3.56) pitched the next two and a third innings and let six runs score on eight hits (HR) and a walk against two Ks. LHP Nick Hill (7.07) got the same length of time out there on the mound and gave up a run on three hits and a walk against a K.
3B Alex Liddi (.280), C Jose Yepez (2 R, .352), and 2B Leury Bonilla (2B, 3B, R, RBI, .237) all had two hits and a walk. LF Carlos Peguero (.293) also had a single and a walk. So, miserable pitching and not exciting offense, but WALKS!
High Desert 9, Rancho Cucamonga 3 (ANA - 3)
LHP Anthony Vasquez (1.96, PO, W) threw another seven innings, letting two runs score this time on four hits, a walk, and four Ks. He’s pretty consistent in that IP mark. He’s averaging about 7.1 per start. RHP Cheyne Hann (5.70) struck out one in the eighth. RHP Chris Kirkland (15.75) also did that in the ninth, but he also let a run score on three hits.
Home runs from unlikely sources! 1B Eddy Martinez-Esteve (HR, 4 RBI, 1-4, .364), C Trevor Coleman (HR, 2 RBI, 1-4, .211), and 3B Shaver Hansen (2 2B, HR, 2 RBI, E, 3-4, .234) all had them. Coleman leads the group with three dingers on the season, and it was EM-E’s first at this level. Heck of a night for Hansen too; probably the best of his career thus far. LF Jake Shaffer (2B, 2 R, CS, .316) had three hits batting second and DH Dennis Raben (2B, R, RBI, .387), back in the lineup, had a couple of hits. No one walked though.
Kane County 2 (OAK - 2), Clinton 4
LHP Jimmy Gilheeney (3.19, W) had his best start in a while, pitching seven strong and giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits, a plunked batter, and a walk against six Ks. RHP Daniel Cooper (5.09) gave up a hit and hit one in the eighth and then RHP Brandon Josselyn (3.16, S) struck out the side in the ninth.
RF James Jones (2B, 3B, .223) is making good on the suggestion by Tamargo that he’d break out in the second half, as he had three more hits tonight. CF Daniel Carroll (2B, .283), who was also mentioned, had a pair of hits and SS Gabriel Noriega (2B, R, .217) doubled. No, Franklin wasn't in the lineup. No, I don't know what's the matter. No, he's still not on the DL.
Everett 8, Spokane 9 (TEX - 4) (ten innings)
The Sox have lost a lot of games recently. Blarg. RHP Eric Thomas (5.14) let eight runs (three earned) score on seven hits, a hit batter, two walks, and three Ks in four+ innings. RHP Forrest Snow (0.00) was darned good through the next three innings, ringing up four and not allowing anyone to reach safely, and RHP Stephen Pryor (0.00) walked two and struck out four in the two innings after that. This all gave the Sox enough room to rally, but then LHP Jason Markovitz (6.75, L) gave up a run in a third of an inning on a hit, a wild pitch, a walk, and a K.
SS Anthony Phillips (2 R, .257), CF Robbie Anston (2 RBI, E, .294), and RF Jose Rivero (R, .250) all had two hits in the game, with Phillips also drawing two walks and hitting leadoff. It was a very different looking lineup for the Sox. LF Kevin Rivers (R, RBI, .370) and 1B Evan Sharpley (R, .250) both had two walks, with Rivers adding a single. DH Jimmy Jacquot (HR, 3 RBI, .259) had a home run and a walk. It was Jacquot’s first jack of the year. Yes, I am going to phrase it like that as often as I can.
Pulaski 2, Princeton 11 (TB - 1)
The good news was that RHP Yovanny Olivero (4.66, L) pitched his way into a start. The bad news is that that was the only good news and nearly everything else was horrible. Olivero gave up six runs (four earned) on six hits (HR), a walk, and four Ks. RHP Bryan Leigh (0.00) gave up two unearned runs after two hits, a hit batter, two walks, and a K in the next two and a third innings. Also, he scored one of Olivero’s runs. LHP Ryan Kiel (0.00) had a hit, two walks, and four Ks in the next two innings and then RHP Yao Wen Chang (11.05) allowed three runs to score on five hits and a K in the ninth. So, ouch.
2B Jorge Agudelo (RBI, 2 SB, E, .324) and C Andrew Giobbi (R, .462) both had two hits and that was most of the offense. 3B Ramon Morla (2B, R, SB, .412) also got back into the swing of things with a double and a walk. Burgess was 0-for-5 with five strikeouts leading off. I don’t know what they call that. It probably isn’t flattering.
AZL Royals 4, Peoria Mariners 2
LHP Nate Reed (3.24, L) let three runs score on three hits (HR), a wild pitch, and four walks against six Ks in four and a third innings. RHP Michael Aviles (14.29) gave up a run on two hits, a wild pitch, and a walk while pitching through the sixth. RHP Jarett Attard (0.00) followed them and allowed a couple of hits and struck out three in two frames of work before giving way to RHP Jandy Sena (0.00), who allowed a hit in the ninth.
RF Joe Dunigan (2B, R, RBI, SB, .400) making a rehab appearance and LF Guillermo Pimentel (.259) both had two hits. DH Ryan Royster (R, .500) was 1-for-2 before getting pinch-hit for mid-game.
Yamasa Mariners 0, DSL Brewers 2
Felix wasn’t the only one striking out eleven today, as LHP Henry Perez (1.00, L) also did it, in eight innings at that, but it was a losing effort as he let two runs score on nine hits while the offense couldn’t get anything going for him.
DH Rudy van Herdoorn (2B, .333) and CF Randy Perez (.239) both had two hits and LF George Drullard (A, .193) had a single and a walk.
