This was me and my monotone on KGA talking the draft this afternoon. One of the USSM readers thoughtfully made a MP3 recording of it.

Mississippi 8 (ATL - 6), West Tenn 4
I was a little worried about the winning streak today and as it turns out, I don’t have to worry anymore. RHP Dan Cortes (6.54) let three runs (two earned) score on five hits, a wild pitch, a hit batter, a walk, and two Ks in three innings of work. RHP Luis Munoz (3.29, E, L) followed up with three and two-thirds innings where he let two runs (one earned) score on three hits, a walk, and three Ks. LHP Edward Paredes (2.14) took it through the eighth, walking a pair, then RHP Aaron Jensen (4.45) let three score on three hits, a wild pitch, two walks, and a K in the ninth.
2B Dustin Ackley (2B, 3B, 2 R, .249) had two hits and a walk today. Two extra-base hits and a walk. He’s pretty good. 3B Alexx Liddi (2 R, 2 RBI, .290) and 1B Johan Limonta (2B, .305) also had two hits apiece and RF Leury Bonilla (RBI, .228) had a single and a walk.

Rancho Cucamonga 7 (ANA + 8), High Desert 3
If anything, it appears that RHP Jake Wild (3.86, L) may have been around the strike zone too much, as he allowed five runs to score on seven hits (HR) and a hit batter, with no walks though he did manage to strike out nine. LHP Nick Czyz (5.11) let two score on three hits in the next third of an inning and you can credit one of those to RHP Stephen Penney (3.91), who hit one and struck out three in an inning and two-thirds.
The offense got three hits from DH Dennis Raben (2B, 2 RBI, .393), who is doing all he can to speed up his own timetable. LF Jake Shaffer (R, .284) had a single and a walk, CF Denny Almonte (.292) had two walks, and SS Juan Diaz (2B, .290) doubled.

Lake County 1 (CLE + 19), Clinton 4
We won against a team that was twenty games over .500? Huh. RHP Taylor Stanton (3.25 W,) was pitching pretty darned well, with a single run scoring on five hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts through six innings. RHP Chris Kirkland (1.30, S) pitched the last three, with one hit and five Ks to his name.
DH Vinnie Catricala (HR, 2 R, .286) and 1B Tim Morris (HR, .286) both had home runs in the game and Catricala added a walk. It was Catricala’s fifth and Morris’ second. Franklin has twelve but is not starting the all-star game.

Due to weather in the Dominican and an off day in Venezuela, there was no summer league baseball today.
