Las Vegas 6 (TOR - 2), Tacoma 2
Hrm. LHP Garrett Olson (3.41 , L) gave up four runs on three hits (HR), two walks, and six Ks in eight innings. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this was not a game he deserved to lose. RHP Chad Cordero (5.27) gave up two runs on two hits and a walk in the ninth. So that happened too.
RF Brad Nelson (R, .333) had three hits in the game, 3B Matt Mangini (2B, .302) had two, C Josh Bard (2B, .231) had a double, which means one of the catchers in the organization is hitting, and the top two of CF Ezequiel Carrera (R, E, .218) and LF Matt Tuiasosopo (.321) both drew two walks. It’s the walks that really interest me, I think. But Mangini deserves some credit too; he’s hitting .302/.351/.566 in spite of inconsistent playing time and barely any expectations whatsoever.

Mobile 6 (ARI + 1), West Tenn 5 (ten innings)
Well, they almost won. RHP Michael Pineda (2.23) had what would be termed as a rough night for him, giving up four runs on seven hits, a hit batter, three walks, and seven Ks in four+ innings. Incidentally, the opposing pitcher was Wes Roemer, who also has one of the lowest walk rates in the league, and he was called for two walks in five innings, so I’m guessing there was some strikezone funkiness form the home plate ump? Robots! LHP Robert Rohrbaugh (1.74, PO) pitched the next four innings and let a run score on four hits and two Ks in that span. RHP Wes Littleton (8.53, L) pitched an inning+ after that and gave up a run on a hit, two walks, and a K. Those two walks opened the tenth, and try as he might RHP Anthony Varvaro (2.45) couldn’t strand both of them, with one intentional walk, but no hits or anything of the sort in his inning of work.
This was painful beyond Pineda’s line because the D-Jaxx rallied for three runs in the ninth inning. First, CF Kuo-hui Lo (2B, R, SB, 2-4, 2 BB, .247) walked, then Limonta singled, and that got Lo to third. Wilson flew out, then with Liddi at bat, there was a wild pitch to score Lo, and Liddi walked as well. Ackley lined out, so two outs in the books, but Dunigan got hit by a pitch and C Jose Yepez (2 RBI, PB, .444) contributed a two RBI single. Dunigan managed to steal third, but then Triunfel grounded out and that ended the threat. Outside of that particular inning, LF Carlos Peguero (2B, 2 RBI, .354) had two hits. The Jaxx stranded thirteen runners and were 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Ouch.

Mauricio Robles was the Southern League Pitcher of the Week. Much as I like to see him get the recognition, I suspect this was the reason why Pineda pitched so poorly tonight. Everyone’s clear that I’m not being serious, right?

High Desert 8, San Jose 4 (SF - 1)
I like me a good old-fashioned Cal League pitcher’s duel. RHP Jake Wild (3.32) held the Giants to five hits, a walk, and five Ks through seven innings of work. RHP Blake Nation (2.61, BS, W) was the first to have blood drawn on the Mavs side, letting a run score on three hits and two Ks in two frames of work. RHP Stephen Penney (2.94, S) struck out one in the tenth and that was that. Exciting to see the Mavs sweep a series from San Jose, where they were swept out of the playoffs last year. Call it revenge.
The tenth inning run you can credit to RF Johermyn Chavez (HR, .299), who struck out his first three times up and then hit his fourth jack. Can I unironically call him Homerin’ Chavez again? 3B Edilio Colina (2B, RBI, CS, E, .338) was the only other contributor, collecting two hits and a walk.

Clinton got rained out. There’s a doubleheader tomorrow morning. Baseball!
