Nashville is the superior team, I suppose. LHP Chris Seddon (3.86, L) gave up six runs (four earned) on six hits (2 HR!), a hit batter, a walk, and four Ks in five+ innings. RHP Mike Koplove (6.75) had an uneventful sixth, but then RHP Yusmeiro Petit (9.00) let two score on three hits and a hit batter against a K in the seventh. RHP Steve Palazzolo (2.25) had a walk and a K in the eighth.
LF Brad Nelson (E, .321) had two singles. This game was unpleasant.
Mobile 4 (ARI 0), West Tenn 6
Win! RHP Steve Bray (3.74, PO, E, W) picked up his first, giving up two runs on eight hits, and four Ks in seven innings. Then RHP Anthony Varvaro (3.45) gave up two runs on three hits and two walks against a K in the eighth and that’s no good. RHP Wes Littleton (7.36, S) got his first save with a hit and a K in the ninth.
LF Carlos Peguero (R, .339) and 2B Dustin Ackley (R, SB, .211) both had two hits in the game. Ackley is hitting .353/.476/.529 in his last ten games. Ackley! C Jose Yepez (2B, R, RBI, .333) had a double and a walk and 3B Alex Liddi (3B, R, RBI, .293) had a triple, his third of the year. What’s up with that?
High Desert 5, Bakersfield 6 (TEX + 2)
Well shoot. LHP Nick Czyz (3.86) is now in the rotation I guess when Feierabend isn’t pitching. He went four and two-thirds innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits, a walk, and two Ks. This is going to be an interesting adjustment period. RHP Blake Nation (2.45) had a hit and a K through the next inning and a third, and RHP Cheyne Hann (5.31) had two runs score on two hits, two walks, and a K in the inning and a third after that. RHP Stephen Penney (2.81, BS, L) scored both those and an unearned run on four hits and a walk in two-thirds+. This all seems familiar somehow.
LF Nate Tenbrink (2 HR, .391) hit two solo shots. He’s clearly mad that he wasn’t hitter of the week last week. 2B Kyle Seager (HR, .294) added a solo shot too, CF Denny Almonte (2B, R, E, .282) had a couple of hits, and 1B Rich Poythress (R, .268) had a single and a walk. I’d say something about all those shots being single runs, but really, no one was reaching base anyway.
Clinton’s game was postponed due to weather. Doubleheader Friday!
