LHP Garrett Olson (3.57, L) gave up three runs on five hits, four walks, and six Ks in six innings pitched and I’m pretty sure that’s one of his worse starts of the season. RHP Andy Baldwin (3.57) had a hit, a walk, and a couple of Ks in the final two innings.
Good news, everybody, CF Gregory Halman (HR, .196) is off the DL and hit a home run in his first at-bat back. C Eliezer Alfonzo (2B, .262) added a double.
West Tenn 8, Mississippi 7 (ATL 0)
This was the RHP Michael Pineda (2.11, W) we all know and love, as he went six innings and let a run score on five hits, a hit batter, and a walk against six Ks. He was followed by the RHP Mumba Rivera (9.53) with whom we are familiar and prefer to avoid at parties as it gets awkward. Rivera gave up three runs on three hits (HR) and two walks against a K. RHP Josh Fields (4.05) tried to do his best imitation, but came out less the dinger in his inning and a third. RHP Anthony Varvaro (3.38, S) threw two pitches for the save.
SS Carlos Triunfel (2B, R, RBI, .302) had three hits in the game, which I mention because he’s coming around and man that’s exciting. If I were going for the player of the game, I might opt for 1B Johan Limonta (2 2B, 4 RBI, .317), who had two doubles, one to clear the bases in the first. PH-DH Guillermo Quiroz (RBI, .362) had two hits and a walk, and CF Kuo-hui Lo (2 R, .246) also reached three times with a hit and two walks. Those who reached twice included LF Carlos Peguero (R, PO, .333) with a hit, a walk, and FOUR STRIKEOUTS, and 3B-1B Alex Liddi (.287) and 2B Dustin Ackley (2 R, SB, .200), who both walked twice. RF Joe Dunigan (HR, 2 RBI, .195) also hit his fourth home run, and also struck out four times. Two batters accounted for two-thirds of the D-Jaxx’ strikeouts. Jeepers. Jack Wilson went 1-for-2 in his first rehab appearance at DH.
Stockton 9 (OAK - 5), High Desert 4
LHP Bobby LaFromboise (4.66) had a pretty awful outing, giving up five runs on eight hits, three of which left the park, one walk, and four Ks. RHP Blake Nation (3.04) let two runs score on four hits in the next inning and two-thirds, and then RHP Cheyne Hann (5.64) let two more plate on four hits and two Ks in the final two innings.
The offense got two hits apiece from the top three in the order, 2B Kyle Seager (2 2B, 2 R, .308), LF Jake Shaffer (3 RBI, E, .286), and 3B Nate Tenbrink (.384), with Shaffer adding a walk. From the rest of the lineup, SS Juan Diaz (R, CS, E, .283) had a single and a walk.
Cedar Rapids 0 (ANA + 4), Clinton 5
Hey, look, RHP Taylor Lewis (0.00, W) is back in action. He’s probably replacing Blandford, who is on the DL. Lewis pitched five frames and gave up a hit and a couple of walks while striking out two. RHP John Housey (2.61), prepared for a long outing, went three and two-thirds, allowing three hits and a walk. LHP Jose Jimenez (2.08) then walked one before RHP Brandon Josselyn (3.60, S) came in for the final flyout. That’s two super easy saves tonight. Except Josselyn had the bases loaded. Whatever, five-run lead.
2B Nick Franklin (HR, CS, .309) led off the game with his sixth home run, one of two hits for him on the night, which is one base more exciting than the two hits for CF Wellington Dotel (3B, R, 2 RBI, .280). RF James Jones (2B, R, .200), 3B Vinnie Catricala (2B, RBI, .278), and SS Gabriel Noriega (2B, .171) all had doubles, with Jones adding a walk.
