New Orleans 5 (FLA - 5), Tacoma 7
RHP Andy Baldwin (4.23) gave up four runs on eight hits (HR) and four Ks in five innings back in the rotation. Not as good as I expected? RHP Brian Sweeney (1.47) let an unearned run score on a hit, a wild pitch, a hit batter, two walks, and two Ks in two innings of work. RHP Sean White (0.00) struck out one in the eighth and RHP Levale Speigner (8.15, W) managed to get the win with two hits allowed in the ninth.
RF Gregory Halman (HR, 2 RBI, A, .214) and LF Mike Wilson (HR, 4 RBI, SB, .158) both hit home runs in the game, the difference being that Wilson had it as one of two hits and it ended up being the walk-off with two outs in the ninth, whereas Halman struck out three times. SS Chris Woodward (E, .256) and 1B Brad Nelson (2B, 2 R, RBI, .309) both had three hits in the game. 3B Ramon Vazquez (2B, R, .179) doubled, DH Mike Carp (2 R, .212) had two singles and a walk, and CF Ezequiel Carrera (.241) had a single and a walk from the ninth.
Montgomery 3 (TB + 3), West Tenn 5 (seven innings)
RHP Steven Hensley (1.57, W) pitched the minimum for the win to run his record to 5-1, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks against three Ks in five innings. RHP Anthony Varvaro (3.26, S) had a walk and a K in the final two frames for the save.
CF Kuo-hui Lo (HR, .237) hit out his fourth home run of the season and C Jose Yepez (2B, 2 RBI, .263) had his fourth double. It’s more impressive if you think about it in the context of him missing the first month or so.
Montgomery 2 (+ 2), West Tenn 3 (seven innings)
Hey, we swept the DH. RHP Luis Munoz (3.60, W) got his first win of the year, and earned it too, giving up a run on five hits while striking out six in five innings. RHP Aaron Jensen (4.24, S) pitched the final two, letting an unearned run score on two hits, a walk, and a K.
1B Johan Limonta (2 2B, RBI, .324) added doubles thirteen and fourteen in the game, while 3B Alex Liddi (2 R, CS, E, .295) had a single, two walks, and a bit of trouble on the field.
High Desert 6, Lancaster 1 (HOU - 11)
LHP Anthony Vasquez (0.00, E, W) basically manhandled the Jethawks in his Cal League debut, giving up an unearned run on four hits and six Ks, while running a 10/4 ground/fly. He’s pretty good. RHP Stephen Penney (3.72) struck out one in the ninth. There were no inherited runners.
LF Nate Tenbrink (HR, 2 RBI, 2 SB, .388) hit his ninth home run, drew two walks, and stole a base or two. He does everything, really, except play a premium position. Now that I’ve said that he’s going to start catching. 1B Rich Poythress (R, .269), C Travis Scott (R, .287), DH Jake Shaffer (3B, RBI, .286), and SS Juan Diaz (3B, RBI, .290) all had two hits in the game. One might expect more run-scoring, but whatever.
Kane County 1 (OAK - 2), Clinton 4
RHP Taylor Lewis (0.90, W) gave up a run on five hits (HR), a couple of walks, and two Ks. Same inning, walk, and K totals as his last outing. Consistency! LHP Brian Moran (1.77) pitched the next two innings, walking one, and RHP Brandon Josselyn (3.18, S) walked one and struck out one in the final two.
CF-RF Wellington Dotel (HR, 2 RBI, .314) had his first home run of the year, along with a walk. 3B Mario Martinez (R, .213) also had a hit and a walk, RF-1B James Jones (R, .210) had two walks, and SS Nick Franklin (2B, RBI, .311) doubled.
VSL Phillies 5, Aguirre Mariners 4 (ten innings)
RHP Jose Flores (2.25) let three runs (one earned) score on five hits and three Ks in four innings of work. RHP Kevin Quintanilla (2.45) let another one plate on three hits, a balk, and three Ks in the next three and two-thirds innings, then LHP Cruz Pereira (5.40, L) had a run score against him after a hit, two wild pitches, and hit batter in an inning and two-thirds. It was RHP Maikel Ynfantes (6.75) who scored it, with a hit and an intentional walk in two-thirds of an inning.
2B Michael Acevedo (RBI, E, .333) had three singles and a walk in the game. I’m not sure why he’s still in the league. SS Felipe Burin (R, CS, E, .429) had a single and two walks and CF Jesus Ugueto (RBI, .176) and LF Reginald Lampe (R, E, .250) both had a single and a walk.
