Another near sweep…

New Orleans 3 (FLA - 6), Tacoma 7
LHP Luke French (1.61, W) ran his record to 5-1, allowing three runs, but only one of them earned, to score on four hits, a hit batter, and three walks against five Ks in six and two-thirds innings. RHP David Pauley (3.47) and LHP Garrett Olson (3.32) each pitched two-thirds of an inning after that, Pauley ringing up a pair, Olson one, and then RHP Chad Cordero (4.86) struck out two in the ninth.
Dingers were the story of the day for the Rainiers, with five of their seven runs scoring on them. 2B Ramon Vazquez (HR, 2 RBI, E, 1-4, BB, .183) hit his first, 1B Mike Carp (HR, 2 RBI, 1-4, BB, .213) hit his seventh, and CF Gregory Halman (HR, 2 E, 1-4, .216) hit his fifth. LF Mike Wilson (R, SB, .238) added two hits and two walks, while DH Tommy Everidge (2B, R, RBI, .236) and 3B Matt Mangini (2 R, E, .273) settled for the two hits, and RF Brad Nelson (SB, .298), the two walks. How Nelson managed to steal another base, I don’t know. Similarly, it’s hard to figure out how the Rainiers survived five errors without allowing more runs, but I’ll take it.

Montgomery 5 (TB + 3), West Tenn 2
RHP Jake Wild (9.64, L) had a bit of trouble with his double-A debut, giving up five runs on seven hits, two walks, and three Ks in four and two-thirds innings. RHP Mumba Rivera (7.59) scored one of those, but none of his own after three hits, a walk, and two Ks in the next two and a third innings. LHP Edward Paredes (3.07), finally back off the DL, and RHP Josh Fields (4.09) split the last two innings, each striking out one, though Paredes also walked one. Wes Littleton went back on the inactive list to make way for Paredes.
For the offense, 2B Dustin Ackley (3B, 2 RBI, .206) had a triple and two walks, and C Luis Oliveros (R, .333) had a single and a walk.

High Desert 9, Lancaster 7 (HOU - 12)
RHP Kenn Kasparek (2.45, W) got his fourth win, giving up a run on seven hits, three walks, and two Ks in six and two-thirds. RHP Blake Nation (3.81) had a hit and a K in the next inning and a third. Things ran the risk of dissolving in the ninth, as RHP Marwin Vega (4.32) came in and let five unearned runs score on three hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. RHP Cheyne Hann (5.70) scored one of those, and had an earned run of his own score on two hits before he recorded the final K.
2B Kyle Seager (2 R, SB, .306) led off with three hits and a walk. Further on down, 1B Rich Poythress (HR, 2 RBI, E, .275), RF Johermyn Chavez (2B, .273), and SS Juan Diaz (HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, .295) all had two hits, Poythress and Chavez adding walks. Not to be left out, DH Nate Tenbrink (2B, 2 RBI, SB, .382) doubled.

Kane County 1 (OAK - 3), Clinton 5
LHP Jonathan Hesketh (6.11) had a decent outing, going five innings and allowing a run to score on three hits, two walks, and five Ks, but it was RHP John Housey (2.38, W) who won it, pitching the next two and walking one while striking out three. RHP Chris Kirkland (0.36, S) had a similar run in his two innings, minus the walk. He hasn’t allowed an earned run since his first outing of the year.
LF Kalian Sams (HR, 2 R, .187) had a couple of hits in the game, one of them leaving the park. Slugging percentage: still over .500. 1B Vinnie Catricala (.257), RF James Jones (CS, .212), and SS Nick Franklin (2B, 2 R, SB, .311) all had a hit and a walk. Those were the top three in the order. Weird, I know.

Aguirre Mariners 4, VSL Cardinals 0
RHP Vicente Campos (0.00, W) had a damned fine start to his season, pitching five perfect innings and striking out nine while running a 5/1 ground/fly. Last year, when he was pitching under the name Jose Campos (like a lot of summer leaguers, he seems to go by his middle name), I would have never guessed he had an outing like this in him. RHP Osmel Morales (0.00, S) gave up the one hit the Cards managed, but was otherwise quite good himself, striking out four in the same number of innings.
RF Alexy Palma (2B, R, .333) had his first double of the year, and CF Kenny Hart (2 R, 2 SB, .667) debuted for the season with two hits and a walk.
