More library updates. I don’t know exactly when I’ll have my computers all squared away, but the weekly wrap is going to be postponed a few days. To go over a few transaction notes early, Eliezer Alfonzo was brought up from Tacoma to take the place of Bard on the roster, and Jack Hannahan was designated to make room for him. It’s a risk I guess they could take because Hannahan hasn’t been hitting, but I’d be a little surprised if he wasn’t picked up. With both those positions in flux, C Blake Ochoa was brought up from extended and UT Jeff Dominguez was promoted from West Tenn. Tenbrink did indeed land on the DL after being hit by the pitch and so they brought in LF/2B Brandon Haveman from extended. I don’t see any new move to give High Desert another catcher, but it will probably be Henry Contrares or someone like that.
Tacoma 4, Las Vegas 6 (TOR - 7)
What can I say about the pitching here? Beyond that they gave up an inside-the-park home run to RF Aaron Matthews and let 2B Jarrett Hoffpauir complete the cycle in consecutive at-bats? RHP Steven Shell (3.00, L) took the loss after letting all six runs score on twelve hits (2 HR!), a wild pitch, a walk, and a couple of Ks, and had both the hitting feats tagged to his name. RHP Yusmeiro Petit (9.00) pitched the final two and athird innings and allowed a couple of hits.
2B Ramon Vazquez (2B, RBI, .208), C Guillermo Quiroz (2B, .400), and CF Ezequiel Carrera (RBI, CS, A, .257) all had three hits in the game, with Carrera adding a walk and an outfield assist. In his last ten games, Carrera is hitting .419/.471/.452. LF Brad Nelson (.303) and DH Tommy Everidge (2 2B, R, .258) both had two hits, with Nelson adding a walk, and RF Greg Halman (2 R, RBI, .209) had a single and a walk.
West Tenn 1, Carolina 2 (CIN - 2)
Awwww. RHP Steven Hensley (1.53, E, L) had a pretty good start too, going seven innings and letting a couple of runs (one earned) plate after seven hits, a wild pitch, and six Ks. LHP Edward Paredes (2.70) walked one and struck out one.
2B Dustin Ackley (2B, R, .208) had a double and two walks in the game. The offense was slightly more exciting than just that because LF Carlos Peguero (2B, .307) had a couple of hits and CF Jake Shaffer (CS, .500), DH Johan Limonta (2B, .305), and RF Scott Savastano (.305) all had a hit and a walk.
Modesto 9 (COL + 5), High Desert 6
Nuts again! RHP Kenn Kasparek (2.80) had four runs score against him after six innings in which he gave up six hits, a hit batter, and two walks while striking out four. Hey, at least there were Ks. After that, RHP Blake Nation (5.34, L) kind of imploded, with five runs scoring on six hits, a walk, and a K in an inning and two-thirds of work. RHP Steven Richard (3.47) had a hit and a strikeout in the last inning and a third.
SS Juan Diaz (HR, 2 RBI, E, .292) hit his fifth home run in the game. All of his home runs have been in May, so if you think about it that way, he has more dingers in one month than he did all of last season. Beyond that, which is really sort of a minor note of interest, 1B Rich Poythress (2 R, RBI, .296) reached all five times he was at the plate, with two singles and three walks. 2B Kyle Seager (R, .318), DH Dennis Raben (2B, .500), RF Johermyn Chavez (3B, R, RBI, .309), and C Trevor Coleman (.209) all had two hits, with Seager and Chavez adding walks.
Clinton 6, Kane County 2 (OAK )
Hey, we won a game. RHP Taylor Stanton (3.31, W) continued to roll in the rotation, with a seven-inning outing where two runs scored on six hits and a hit batter and he struck out six as well. RHP Chris Kirkland (0.32) added two more perfect innings and struck out four. He may be eyeing a promotion as well.
The production was not so much in the number of hits, because 1B Vinnie Catricala (R, 2 RBI, .272) was the only one with two or more, nor was it in the walks, because Catricala again had one of only three. The other two, did have hits, though, and those went to 2B Nick Franklin (R, .311) and C Steve Baron (R, .165). There were, however, a few key extra-base hits for CF Daniel Carroll (3B, R, RBI, .310), LF Kalian Sams (2B, R, RBI, .187), and 3B Mario Martinez (HR, 2 RBI, .230). Martinez is really tearing it up of late.
The VSL had weather and so the game was postponed. It will either be made up later or it won’t. It’s usually one or the other.
