Last update for a little while, as things are going to be closed down on Monday and I won’t have means of accessing a computer. Fun fact: library computers tend to be occupied primarily by people that have to look down when they type, punching the keys as hard as possible, and kids playing games.
Tacoma 17, Las Vegas 9 (TOR - 8)
This is more like it, or at least part of the way there. RHP Andy Baldwin (4.68, W) got the win despite allowing four runs on nine hits and a hit batter against five Ks in five innings because it was that kind of game. Nice command though. RHP Brian Sweeney (1.69) then let three runs (one earned) score on three hits and a K in the next two innings, before RHP Sean White (0.00) came on for the eighth and allowed a hit and plunked a batter. RHP Levale Speigner (8.69) let two runs score on a hit, two walks, and a strikeout in the ninth and it didn’t really matter.
RF Mike Wilson (2 HR, 4 R, 5 RBI, SB, .333) had a monster of a game with four hits total, two of which left the park. Those comprised two of the three home runs given up by 51s pitchers, the other going to DH Tommy Everidge (2B, HR, 4 RBI, .267), who had three hits total. A few others also had three hits, including 2B Ramon Vazquez (2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, .232) and C Guillermo Quiroz (2B, 2 R, PB, .429), with Vazquez adding a walk. CF Gregory Halman (3 R, .216) added two singles, 1B Brad Nelson (2B, R, .301) had a double and a couple of walks, and LF Ezequiel Carrera (2 RBI, SB, .257) had a single and a walk. That’s almost everyone, but the leadoff man only reached safely one and made two errors on the field, so…
West Tenn 4, Carolina 2 (CIN - 3)
LHP Ryan Feierabend (2.57, W) won his first start back in double-A, pitching seven innings and letting a couple of runs score on five hits (HR), a balk, a hit batter, and three Ks. RHP Anthony Varvaro (2.82, S) struck out a pair and didn’t allow anyone to reach in the final two innings. Command!
CF-RF Leury Bonilla (A, .192) had three singles in the game which I think is more interesting because his replacement in center was Haveman. I don’t know how that particular infield experiment is going. LF Carlos Peguero (HR, 2 R, .311) and 3B Alex Liddi (2B, 3B, R, RBI, .272) both had two hits and a cycle between them. Peguero also added a walk. RF Scott Savastano (2B, R, RBI, .308) added a double.
Modesto 7 (COL + 6), High Desert 3
We got swept by the Nuts. RHP Jake Wild (3.61, E, L) gave up seven runs through six and two-thirds innings on eight hits, a walk, and four Ks, but only three of those ended up being earned. RHP Stephen Penney (4.15) scored two of those, naturally, by allowing a hit and striking out three in an inning and a third. RHP Marwin Vega (4.08) had an uneventful ninth.
There were no extra-base hits in the game. Not for the Mavs, at least. DH Rich Poythress (R, .299) and RF Johermyn Chavez (2 R, .311) both had a couple of hits and 2B Kyle Seager (R, .317), 1B Dennis Raben (.438), and C Ralph Henriquez (RBI, .333) all had a hit and a walk. So, Henriquez is now the back-up catcher.
Clinton 5, Kane County 3 (OAK - 6) (fifteen innings)
Extra baseball! Of the good kind! Fortunately, to start things out, RHP Erasmo Ramirez (1.90) threw eight innings, with a run scoring on four hits (HR), a wild pitch, a hit batter, and two Ks. Not his best, but he was getting outs. RHP Brandon Josselyn (3.10, E, BS) did not, and had two (one earned) score against him in the next two innings on three hits and two walks. RHP Daniel Cooper (4.24, W) allowed a hit and struck out three over the next four, enough to earn him the win, and LHP Jose Jimenez (1.42, S) saved it in the bottom half of the fifteenth.
The fifteenth went like this. SS Gabriel Noriega (2B, R, RBI, .222) singled to open things, then Carroll sacrificed him over to second. 2B Hawkins Gebbers (2 R, RBI, SB, 3-7, .280) drove him in with another single and ended up on second with the throw. While Catricala was at the plate, he stole third, and then Catricala (R, 3-6, SB, BB, .279) walked. RF Kalian Sams (2B, RBI, 2-8, .190) struck out, which would be less surprising if not for the fact that it was the first time he’d done that in the game, but following that, 1B Tim Morris (RBI, 2-6, BB, .333) walked and the fourth ball was a passed one by Stassi and Gebbers scored. After that, 3B Mario Martinez (2-7, BB, .232) popped out to end that half of the inning. One other guy that did well outside of that particular inning was C Steve Baron (R, .168), who singled and walked twice.
VSL Cardinals 5, Aguirre Mariners 6
RHP Vicente Campos (1.13, PO) did not have a great follow-up outing, giving up a couple of runs (one earned) on three hits, two wild pitches, a walk, and a K in three innings of work. RHP Rodolfo Alvarez (9.00) let another run score on two hits and a wild pitch in the next inning, then LHP Cruz Pereira (3.60, E) gave up a run on three hits, a balk, a walk, and a K through three and a third innings. RHP Jose Mendoza (0.00) had to come in for the final two outs of the eighth. RHP Ricardo Pereira (3.60, BS, W) blew it by giving up an unearned run on two hits and a K in the ninth, but won anyway as the M’s rallied.
DH Diego Mina (2 R, RBI, SB, .438) had a heck of a night, going 5-for-5. All of them were singles, but that’s not unusual for the league. 2B Michael Acevedo (RBI, .313), 1B Ivan Ramirez (2 R, RBI, .290), RF Alexy Palma (2B, RBI, CS, .378), and CF Rashynol Michel (CS, .300) all had two hits in the game, with Acevedo and Ramirez adding walks. LF Kenny Hart (2B, 2 RBI, E, .222) doubled.
