Tacoma 7, Las Vegas 4 (TOR - 10)
RHP David Pauley (3.49) threw six and had three score on seven hits (HR), a couple walks, a hit batter, and four Ks. Over the next inning and two-thirds, RHP Mike Koplove (4.41) let an unearned run score on two hits and two Ks. After that, RHP Sean White (0.00, BS, W) walked two before recording an out, and that forced in a run. You know what that means? PROMOTIONS! RHP Chad Cordero (4.12, S) allowed a hit and struck out the side in the ninth.
3B Matt Mangini (3B, HR, 4 RBI, .308) had two hits and a walk, which I think is more interesting than 2B Jeff Dominguez (3B, R, .556) getting two hits except hey he has a nice little average through two games in triple-A. DH Tommy Everidge (R, RBI, .267) and LF Gregory Halman (R, .331) both had two walks except Everidge singled where Halman just struck out. Halman is more than halfway to his walk total for all of last year, which includes the rehab stint. SS Chris Woodward (2B, R, RBI, E, .215) doubled and led off.
West Tenn 3, Chattanooga 0 (LA - 7)
I propose that I knock the command of LHP Mauricio Robles (3.31, W) more often because this time he went six and a third innings, allowing just three hits and a wild pitch while striking out nine and not walking a soul. RHP Mumba Rivera (7.25) struck out one in the next inning and LHP Robert Rohrbaugh (2.90, S) had two Ks in the final inning and two-thirds. Chattanooga is not a bad offense either; they’re roughly average.
The offense got two hits out of RF Kuo-hui Lo (R, RBI, .250), 3B Alex Liddi (RBI, .275), and 2B Dustin Ackley (R, RBI, .225), with Ackley drawing a walk as he is wont to do. 1B Johan Limonta (2B, R, .290) doubled, as he also seems wont to do, and CF Brandon Haveman (SB, PO, .375) had a single and a walk which works too.
High Desert 2, Lake Elsinore 14 (SD + 17)
On Monday, the Storm decided to play like a team which was leading the division. LHP Bobby LaFromboise (4.94, L) let five runs score on nine hits, a balk, four walks, and a lone strikeout through three and a third innings. Following him, LHP Nick Czyz (4.44, E) gave up a couple runs (one earned) on three hits and a K in an inning and two-thirds. RHP Marwin Vega (5.79) gave up four runs on four hits and a walk in the sixth, and in the final two, RHP Ryan Moorer (8.47) let three runs plate on two hits, a wild pitch, and five walks. Two Ks against ten walks. That is some awful pitching. The Storm didn’t even walk a man.
DH Dennis Raben (3B, RBI, .348) and RF Johermyn Chavez (3B, R, .302) both tripled in the game and CF Denny Almonte (2B, RBI, .293) and LF Maximo Mendez (2B, R, .232) both had doubles. I liked that better than the two hits by 3B Edilio Colina (.320) and C Ralph Henriquez (2B, .429). Go figure, right?
Clinton 7, Kane County 4 (OAK - 6)
Oh… LHP Jimmy Gilheeney (2.34) got the hook after an inning because of rain, and in that span, he gave up a run on two hits and two walks against a K. Bullpen day didn’t turn out so well, as LHP Jose Jimenez (2.01, L) let two score on four hits (HR), a wild pitch, a walk, and two Ks in three and a third innings, and, for the first time in May, RHP Chris Kirkland (1.47) gave up runs, four of them on five hits (HR), a wild pitch, one walk, and three Ks in two and two-thirds innings. That just seems fishy to me. RHP Brandon Josselyn (2.95) had a walk, a wild pitch, and a K in the ninth.
SS Nick Franklin (HR, .322) had three hits leading off including home run #9 which is awesome. DH Hawkins Gebbers (HR, 2 R, .321) and C Steve Baron (RBI, .179) both had two hits and Gebbers added a walk. We may see more games like this out of him. RF Wellington Doel (2B, R, RBI, .275) doubled.
VSL Pirates 4, Aguirre Mariners 3
Yep. This is the year the Aguirre team drags the org record down. RHP Reynaldo Sabala (4.50, PO, L) gave up three runs on six hits, a wild pitch, two walks, and six Ks in three innings of starting. Then, after that, RHP Isliexel Gonzalez (0.75) gave up a run on four hits, a walk, a hit batter, and seven Ks in the final six innings. I want him to succeed because unlike other VSL players whose given names I know the origins of, his looks uniquely like a mash-up of random consonants and vowels.
3B Miguel Brito (RBI, .194) and CF Rashynol Michel (.375) both had two hits in the game and 1B Yidid Batista (R, RBI, SB, .179) and DH Jean Acevedo (.282) both had a single and a walk.
