Sacramento 2 (OAK), Tacoma 6
I guess we could always win against Brett Tomko tomorrow. It would seem appropriate. LHP Mauricio Robles (9.00) had bad command in this one, with six runs scoring against him on four hits (2 HR!), a wild pitch, a balk, and five walks against nine Ks. RHP Levale Speigner (6.75) then allowed a hit in the next inning before giving way to LHP Edward Paredes (0.00), who had a couple of hits, a hit batter, and a pair of strikeouts in the final two innings.
C Eliezer Alfonzo (2 R, CS, .250) had three singles and was caught stealing to end the game. Weird. SS Tug Hulett (2B, .273) had two hits and walked once. 1B Justin Smoak (.625) had another single and walk. He is some kind of crazy on-base machine.
West Tenn 1, Tennessee 11 (CHC)
LHP Anthony Vasquez (6.75, L) gave up four runs after seven hits (2 HR!), a couple of hit batters, and four Ks in five and a third innings. RHP Steven Richard (13.50) scored one of those and one of his own on two hits (HR), a wild pitch, and two walks against a K in the remaining two-thirds of that inning, so that could have been much worse. RHP Wes Littleton (18.00) then let two score on three hits and a walk against one K in the seventh and LHP Brian Moran (36.00) let four plate on four hits (HR) in the eighth.
SS Nick Franklin (.375) had two hits in the game. The camp that said he could skip advanced-A is looking saner all the time. 2B Matt Lawson (.286) had two walks and DH Johan Limonta (RBI, .200) had a hit and a walk.
Clinton 6, Cedar Rapids 2 (ANA)
The Lumberkings move to the second round. I’m impressed. RHP Erasmo Ramirez (1.29) pitched seven innings and had two runs (one earned) score against him on eight hits, a wild pitch, a walk, and eight Ks. RHP Matthew Bischoff (0.00) had a hit and four Ks in the final two.
RF James Jones (2B, 2 R, .600), 2B Kevin Mailloux (2B, 2 R, RBI, SB, .231), and C Henry Contreras (3 RBI, .333) all had two hits, with Contreras adding a walk. 1B Tim Morris (.222) had three walks, which was also impressive, though it’s also important to note that CF Matt Cerione (HR, .167) hit one out.
