Tacoma 8, Sacramento 5 (OAK)
Last time, it was Travis Blackley taking the loss. This time, it was John Halama. I don’t feel so broken up about that. And Halama hit Halman and that’s hard to read. RHP Blake Beavan (5.40) let four runs score on nine hits, a balk, and a walk against one K. RHP Levale Sepigner (27.00, BS, W) came in and gave up a home run to score two of those runs before striking out the last batter of the seventh. The win is a meaningful statistic. RHP Josh Lueke (0.00, S) had two hits and a K in the last two innings.
2B Dustin Ackley (HR, 3 R, 5 RBI, .556) had three hits out of the leadoff spot, which is good, but still not as many times as 1B Justin Smoak (R, .800) reached base, four for the record, on two hits and two walks. I look forward to the future Dustin/Justin infield. SS Jeff Dominguez (3B, 2 R, RBI, .333) had a triple and a walk, CF Gregory Halman (A, .143) walked and struck out twice, and LF Mike Carp (RBI, .400) had a couple of hits.
West Tenn 8, Tennessee 3 (CHC)
The Battle for Tennessee Pride seems to be off to a good start, for us at least. RHP Luis Munoz (4.50, W) gave up three runs on nine hits (HR), a couple walks, and four Ks in six innings. LHP Nick Hill (0.00) had a hit and a K in the next frame of work and LHP Cesar Jimenez (0.00) had a hit, two walks, and two Ks in the last two innings.
There were dingers in this game! Where do you think these dingers came from?? Surprise! It was C Guillermo Quiroz (HR, 3 RBI, .400) and 1B Nate Tenbrink (HR, 3 RBI, .667), who both had two hits, with Tenbrink adding a walk. DH Johan Limonta (2 R, CS, .000) had three walks. Go with your strengths, I’d say. 2B Matt Lawson (.400) and RF Carlos Peguero (R, 2 RBI, .500) both had a couple of hits, and Ss Nick Franklin (2B, R, .250) had a double and a walk. Liddi turned an unassisted DP and that was pretty cool.
High Desert 1, Rancho Cucamonga 7 (ANA)
Mavs are out of it. LHP Jonathan Hesketh (6.35, L) pitched five and two-thirds innings and had five runs (four earned) score against him on seven hits (2 HR!), a balk, two walks, and four Ks. LJHP Jose Jimenez (0.00) had a walk, a balk, and a K in the next inning and a third. The balk was called three times in the game. That’s pretty uncommon. LHP Bobby LaFromboise (18.00) gave up two runs on three hits (HR), a walk, and a K in the last inning.
2B Kyle Seager (2B, .444) and CF Denny Almonte (2B, R, .375) both had two hits in the game and SS Edilio Colina (.286) had a single and a walk.
Clinton 8, Cedar Rapids 2 (ANA)
This series will keep going! RHP Yoervis Medina (3.00, W) gave up two runs on five hits, a trio of walks, and four Ks in six innings. LHP Nick Czyz (0.00) allowed a hit and walked one in the next inning, and RHP Forrest Snow (0.00) hit one and struck out four in two innings of work. As a reliever, he is kind of amazing.
RF James Jones (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB, .667) and 3B Mario Martinez (R, RBI, E, .444) both had three hits in the game, with Jones adding a walk. LF Vinnie Catricala (HR, .250) also had a home run, C Henry Contreras (2B, 2 RBI, PB, .200) doubled, DH Mickey Wiswall (.143) had a single and a walk, and 1B Tim Morris (2 R, SB, .250) had a couple of hits.
Everett 1, Spokane 4 (TEX)
Oh great, another AL West affiliate. Well, no big. The series will go back to Everett and then Kevin Rivers will destroy them all. RHP Chris Sorce (2.84, L) gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits, five walks, and ten Ks. Weird command, but okay. LHP Kody Kurowski (0.00) scored one of those on a hit, a walk, and a K in the next two-thirds, and then LHP Bennett Whitmore (0.00) had an uneventful eighth.
3B Terry Serrano (2B, R, .200), 2B Hawkins Gebbers (2B, RBI, .385), and SS Anthony Phillips (SB, .300) all had a hit and a walk.
