Tacoma 9, Las Vegas 4 (TOR + 4)
RHP Charlie Haeger (8.83) gave up four runs on five hits, nine walks, and four Ks in five innings. That's more of a knuckleball line than previous knuckleball lines. LHP Cesar Jimenez (3.80, W) allowed two hits and struck out three in three innings of work. RHP Josh Lueke (2.56) had a hit and a K in the ninth.
Dingers! DH Luis Antonio Jimenez (2 HR, 3 R, 5 RBI, 3-5, .281) had two of them and LF Johan Limonta (2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2-3, 2 BB, .335) had one. 2B Kyle Seager (2B, 3 R, .500) added another three hits, CF Ryan Langerhans (.291) and SS Sean Kazmar (2B, .258) both had two hits, and RF Mike Wilson (2B, RBI, .344) and 1B Matt Tuiasosopo (R, RBI, .240) both had a hit and a walk.
Jackson 0, Montgomery 7 (TB 0)
Reversals are upsetting. RHP Andrew Carraway (2.90, L) had his first loss of the season, and probably one of the worst if not the worst outing for him this year, with five runs scoring on six hits (HR), a wild pitch, three walks, and three Ks in four innings. LHP Edward Pardes (4.70) allowed two more to plate on four hits, a wild pitch, a walk, and a K in an inning and two-thirds, then RHP Moises Hernandez (6.00) took it through the seventh, striking out one. LHP Brian Moran (8.20) struck out two in the eighth.
SS Nick Franklin (.600) went 3-for-3. What more do you need to know?
Visalia 13 (ARI - 2), High Desert 15
Good, old fashioned slugfest. RHP Yoervis Medina (6.79) came back to the Desert and gave up five runs on nine hits (HR), a walk, a hit batter, and three Ks in four+ innings. RHP Austin Hudson (6.10) had two runs score against him in the next three innings with five hits, a hit batter, a walk, and a K, and then RHP Stephen Kahn (10.13) struggled again with the inning and a third that he worked, six runs scoring on five hits (HR), a hit batter, and a walk. Kahn scored one of Hudson's runs and RHP Willie Kesler (3.92, S), who gave up a hit while recording the final two outs, scored two of Kahn's runs.
I'm talking about everyone tonight. LF Daniel Carroll (2B, 4 R, 2 RBI, SB, .291), 1B Dennis Raben (HR, 5 RBI, .331), and SS Gabriel Noriega (2B, 3 R, RBI, .239) all had three hits, with Carroll adding a walk. 2B Shaver Hansen (2 R, RBI, .444), DH Vinnie Catricala (2B, 2 R, 3 RBI, .353), 3B Mario Martinez (2B, R, .304), and CF Denny Almonte (2B, RBI, .267) all had two hits, Cat and Hansen adding walks, and RF James Jones (3B, R, .209) and C Andrew Giobbi (2B, R, .195) both had extra-base hits.
Burlington 4 (OAK - 1), Clinton 5
We narrowly avoided a loss this time. LHP Anthony Fernandez (4.22, E) gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits (2 HR!), two walks, and six Ks. Not so good. RHP Jessie Nava (3.00, E) had two hits and a K through the next two innings and then RHP Tyler Burgoon (2.10, W) alloed two hits, but no runs in the ninth.
The ninth was pretty standard run manufacturing. 2B Carlos Ramirez (R, 2-4, .239) singled, Phillips hit a sacrifice to move him over, but then the throw by the catcher was off line and we had runners on third and second, and then CF Robbie Anston (RBI, 2-3, .288)singled and the game was over. Walk off! RF Kalian Sams (HR, 4 RBI, .272) also had two hits, including another dinger, and C Steve Baron (2B, R, .205) doubled.
Eugene 14 (SD + 6), Everett 4
Pain and suffering. LHP Bennett Whitmore (9.00, L) let six runs (five earned) score on eight hits (HR), a walk, and a K. That was in the first inning. RHP Steve Kohlscheen (3.00, PO) had the longest outing of the day with a run scoring against him on three hits, a wild pitch, and four Ks. RHP Tim Griffin (4.32) had a similar line in two innings, minus a K and wild pitch and plus a hit batter. It was getting to be that time in the afternoon, so RHP Jason Buursma (14.85) let two score on two hits, a walk, and three Ks in the next two innings and RHP Jeroen de Haas (13.50) did not avoid trouble and gave up four runs (three earned) on three hits (HR) and a wild pitch. That was not a grand slam.
3B Danny Lopez (HR, 2 RBI, .353) hit his first home run of the season, and RF Mario Yepez (R, .368) and 1B Ethan Paquette (.150) both had two hits, with Yepez drawing a walk.
Princeton 14 (TB + 2), Pulaski 2
Before, I regarded RHP Ambioris Hidalgo (4.00, L) as pretty much a slam dunk for POTW. This is why they play the games. He lasted three+ innings this time out, giving up six runs (three earned) on six hits, three walks, and a K. RHP Brett Shankin (0.00) scored three of those and four unearned of his own on three hits and a walk in a third of an inning. LHP Kyle Hunter (0.00) was the good bullpen pitcher today, with four Ks in two and two-thirds innings. LHP Jeremy Dobbs (4.50) then let a run score on a solo home run along with a walk and two Ks in two innings. RHP Bo Reeder (6.00) let three (two earned) score on three hits and two walks in the final inning.
CF Jamal Austin (PO, .389) had three hits from the leadoff spot. From lower in the order, we had DH Efrain Nunez (HR, .200) with a home run and 1B Jordy Lara (2B, R, E, .263) with a double. There were six errors in the game. Bryan Brito's error total is already greater than that for the season.
Peoria Mariners 8, AZL D'Backs 9
RHP Ernie Zaragoza (11.12, E) had another rough go of it, with four runs (two earned) scoring on a hit, a wild pitch, a hit batter, three walks, and two Ks. RHP Trevor Miller (6.23) scored two of those and pitched the next three and a third innings with a run scoring on five hits, a couple walks, and four Ks. RHP Marcos Reyna (12.00, BS, L) lost it, with four scoring against him on three hits, a couple of wild pitches, two walks, and two Ks in two innings, then RHP Maxx Catapano (7.71) had an uneventful eighth.
3B Yidid Batista (3 RBI, CS, .375), C Angel Salome (2B, 2 R, RBI, .350), and DH Rigoberto Rangel (R, SB, CS, .571) all had two hits, Rangel adding a walk. CF Alfredo Morales (2B, R, .417), RF Reggie Lawson (2B< RBI, .444), and 1B Jose Martinez (3B, R, RBI, .176) all had extra-base hits.
